You may grow a little nervous when it comes to take someone out for her birthday. Choose this certainty on the UES and don't worry! My last experience there was simply fabulous! From the second we walked in, warmly and super-professionally welcomed by angel reception hostess Diana, through Marcello's top-brass, perfect service, to the die-for lobster spaghetti and super-fresh, superbly... A really good friend lives around the corner from Baraonda and suggested we try one of his favorite neighborhood haunts. We were glad we did; we had a really lovely experience. What a nice atmosphere they have. We love the artwork everywhere. The place is very small and has a great vibe to it. The staff and management are all... More

Why Baraonda was my favourite restaurant when I lived in NYC: 1. Succulent food 2. Clever cocktails 3. Superb Staff 4. Romantic Buzz full of cool chaos, pulsating music and LIFE! 5. Stunning People Watching who ooze the vivaciousness of living in NYC. You must go and see, feel and eat Baraonda. It's where to be, it's what to eat... More

I have a love/hate relationship with Baraonda. Much prettier/classier than its neighbor Zucchero, but not as consistent on food or service and higher priced across the board. Veal Osso Bucco this visit was excellent -- tender and flavorful. Branzino special looked exceptional and, per my friend, was delicious. Service good as well. Their wine pours could use some help (maybe... More

Overall the staff was willing to serve well. Our waiter was more preoccupied to chase girls on the sidewalk then to concentrate on taking our order. The food was disappointing. The dinner menu is by far better compared to the very basic and lacking brunch. The eggs Benedict were presented tasteless, overcooked, with some tasteless greens, supposed to be a... More

We were expecting an ordinary but good Italian meal; it turned out to be fabulous. The service was fast, accommodating and very friendly. The food was excellent. This restaurant has been here for years and, for whatever reason, we had never tried it. So we were pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be wonderful. Drinks where the right size.... More

This review is a little late as we were in New York City for New Year's Eve. This restaurant is worthy of a review even if it is seven months later. We were introduced to this small establishment by family who live in the area. The atmosphere is comfortable and the music is unique and soothing. The food is excellent.... More

The tomato sauce (see my photo) with many small pieces of tomato in it which is served with the bread is among the best that I have ever had. On a slow Monday at the restaurant, the service was inattentive enough to allow my Cornish hen to not be served hot, but was somewhere between warm and hot. The hen... More

Overall the food was okay. Mussels didn't seem very fresh and had a bit of a fishy smell. Wasn't "wowed" by the entrees we ordered but service was good and a nice night to sight outside and have some wine.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
