My wife and I asked for a recommendation close to the Metropolitan Museum and the security lady suggested this place after we left the building. The French Onion Soup was as good as it gets. Served hot right out of the oven with great flavor. The Escargot was also excellent. The avocado and crab salad had a little extra bite... More

We took a chance after reading the reviews, but the French Onion Soup and the bread was excellent. Can't say much about the other entrees other than good luck. Cute place.

Mediocre to poor food. I had the steak frites. Steak was poor --a very low grade rib cut FULL of gristle, not hanger steak as it's meant to be. Frites were near tasteless. My rye manhattan was ok. We shared the profiteroles for dessert. Huge portion, but so what -- all the mediocre restaurants get them from the same place... More

I was excited to have dinner at this attractive French restaurant, especially once I saw the menu. We had wine at the bar before being seated. They offered a very nice selection of wines by the glass. Overall, service was friendly and efficient. Our server immediately heard my French accent and deduced that I speak the language. I always enjoy... More

The wait staff was attentive. The tables are close together and it is hard not to hear your neighbor's conversations. I didn't like the white paper that covered the white tablecloths. It tended to pull up as glasses and China were moved--not very classy for the price we were paying, we enjoyed bring able to order wine by the glass.... More

Friends recommended Demarchelier and we dropped in for lunch on Friday October 28, 2016 after walking in nearby Central Park. This item on the menu caught our eyes immediately: Weekly Specials: "Friday Bouillabaisse" It being a Friday, we asked and were informed that Bouillabaisse was indeed on the menu that day. My wife and I both ordered and ate a... More

Been here a long time. Steady clientele. Food kind of boring, the usual salad Nicoise etc. Pricing on par with the neighborhood.

If you are looking for a quintessential old-school French restaurant, this is it.Typical menu items include pate de campagne, coq au vin, steak frites and on Fridays, bouillabaisse. Atmosphere is typiquement francais, white tablecloths, calm quiet atmosphere, attentive service. If you come early say 6:30PM on a Saturday or mid-week you can stay for almost two hours. Prix fix dinner... More

The manager of Demarchelier, apparently the owner's daughter is an erratic mess who offers nothing but grief and rudeness. The food is mediocre: who wants leathery steak and soggy frites?! The service is unpleasant and often rude. Save yourself the trouble and let this place flounder in its mediocrity.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
