As many reviewers have noted the food in this Soho Japanese classic is excellent. On this visit we had the Agadashi Tofu followed by Sukiyaki. Both were outstanding. I deducted a couple of stars for two reasons: 1. Amex cards or cash only. This horrible attempt by AMEX to monopolize restaurant business used to be common practice in Soho but... More

Excellent Japanese cuisine with authentic Japanese specialties and a touch of fusion. Definitely one of the best Asian restaurants in the city. A little 'expensive but very good food. Remember if u don't have cash you can only pay with American Express (no other credit cards and no ATMs). Marzio from Rome

I have been to many sushi restaurants around the World and after visiting Omen I am glad to say I have another favourite. After having sake when we were waiting for the table we ordered different sashimi, edamame, salades, miso soup and few more sakes. Food is really good, my company was great so that was just a plus, the... More

I always look forward to a meal at Omen. It's just a wonderful atmosphere and while the portions are small, the variety and preparation is out of the ordinary. For a consistently authentic experience, price really doesn't matter. Although the high price knocks me star off the otherwise 5 star rating I give this place.

Had a great 👍 Japanese dishes in this original cozy restaurant. It's a bit noisy and the tables could be larger, considering the several plates to be served altogether, they take away all the space on it! ...But the quality and great taste of dishes make you to forget all the (very few) downs of this restaurant. Considering the repetitiveness... More

Omen has always been a favorite, and one of the reasons I love it is that it hasn't changed in the 20 years I have been going there. In an age of big and flashy restaurants Omen is still small and understated. I've always found the food to be fantastic. It's fairly traditional and that might not be what everyone... More

This japanese gem was recommended to us, and when we were looking for it in a dark autumn night, the sign suddenly lit up in a warm orange like a glimpse of a promise. and yes: omen est nomen. the food was authentic from recipe, to ingredients, presentation and taste. the clientele very new yoorkian - we even spied that... Worth the price. Whenever I'm in NYC, I have to stop here for dinner. EVERY trip. I always order the black miso cod. To die for. The ONLY down side is they only take cash and Amex.

Perhaps ordering a tasting menu was not a good idea and i hope that their food is better than what I had but what I had was truly awful. I cant recall the last time I had such bland tasteless food at such exorbitant price and served at such glacial pace. What did me in was a 20 minute wait... More

Omen is one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in the city. The restaurant itself is sparsely decorated and quite dark, and the service is quite attentive. The food however, is what makes Omen special. Don't go to Omen expecting spicy tuna rolls or cucumber rolls. Here, you'll find fresh sashimi, perfectly seasoned Japanese noodles and small sized traditional delicacies.

Staying in SoHo

Neighbourhood Profile
SoHo
Once the artistic hub of New York City, SoHo (South of Houston) is now one of the premiere shopping destinations in the world. Housing everything from the most popular luxury brands to swank boutiques you won’t find anywhere else, this is a sophisticated shopper’s dream come true. Broadway teems with big-name stores and people during the day, while Prince and Spring Streets are the other main drags to explore by foot. Take a detour down the quieter side streets to see the real star of the district –majestic cast-iron architecture everywhere you look. What were once warehouses and art studios are now meticulously restored loft buildings favored by many of New York’s celebrities, making SoHo one of the trendiest addresses in the city. The pretty streets of Nolita (North of Little Italy) offer a more sedate vibe, with plenty of tiny boutiques and hip restaurants to seek out.
