Most amazing Italian food Iv'e ever had. An artistic simplicity to the dishes. Good wine list. People who know Italian eat here.

So perfect way to spend my birthday. The food and the service was perfect! We had the grilled octopus which my husband said was delicious, caesar salad was crispy and dressing perfect!! We had the veal chop parm pounded thin and homemade pasta with meatballs. everyone we spoke to at the restaurant highly recommended the Tiramisu for dessert and I... More

we had a great meal at Ballato - i live in nyc and i have been there many times. However - this time we were with friends who were visiting - and because we were speaking a foreign language - the waiter included 18% tip - without telling us. (we usually tip at least 20%). but they felt obliged to... More

Emilio has done all he could to keep my Uncle John Ballato's reputation in tact. I can almost feel the spirit of Andy Warhol as he was graciously attended to by John and his wife Lucia in much the same way that Emilio attends to his loyal following. Oh yes and BTW the food is as close to John's classic... More

You read about this place online. They will give you the boot. But, the food is outstanding and classic.

Was a great find. Ask for the room in the back. It's like eating in a little restaurant in Italy. Pasta was delicious!!

Without a doubt the best Italian meal I have ever had. Wine was immaculate and could not ask for more fresh pasta. Service was professional and polite. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Try the spaghetti and meatballs!

My son selected this restaurant based on experience from some friends. It was a great place for us to have a great casual mid-afternoon lunch. It was a great experience starting with the appetizers of Caprese and Funghi Saltati. My wife enjoyed her Gamberi Fra Diavolo and I my Gamberi Oregante. My son got the Tagliatelle Bolognese. The meals were... More

Loved this place! From the sight of the owner outside the front door to the decor, everything spoke of old style Italian. The food was fantastic. The caprese salad (a bit pricey) was excellent as it should be when tomatos are in season. The pastas that we enjoyed were excellent particularly the linguine with clams. The wait staff were top... Enjoyed having dinner at this small neighborhood restaurant. It's a busy place that doesn't take reservations. So go early or later if you don't want to stand around waiting for a table. We had clams oreganata and calimari for apps. Also shared the mozzarella and tomato salad. It was all really good. I had shrimp with pasta, and my husband... More

Staying in Nolita

Neighbourhood Profile
Despite being just off of busy Houston Street, Nolita maintains a low-key vibe that makes it a pleasant retreat in the heart of lower Manhattan. Short for “North of Little Italy,” Nolita was once considered to be part of Little Italy. Today, the neighbourhood is popular with young fashionistas popping in and out of the chic independent boutiques that line Mulberry, Mott and Elizabeth Streets. In addition to shopping, there are cozy restaurants and sidewalk cafes serving everything from new-school Italian food to the world-famous cronuts. While small in size (Nolita stretches just a few blocks in each direction), it’s a great neighbourhood to spend an afternoon people watching, window-shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat.
