When you see the place feom outside you will not be able to understand that it is a special place. When you open the old noisy door and curtain you will face with a very kind and elegant well dressed one asking you if you have a reservation. We were at 3 pm there and lucky to be provided a... This is a go to place every time I'm in New York. The first time that we went, we came from watching a play in Broadway and was pretty late. It was close to closing time but we were not turned away. The food was excellent but the service was even better. The next time we went, we had a... More

My cousin and I stopped in here the other day and when I say you get time warped back to the 20's or 30's. Dark woods and booths with a lot of history behind it. We had a few cocktails(17 each) and had the special burger (35 bucks) and everything was great, do I think the burger is worth that... More

As a Greenwich Village institution since the 1930's, it's a great spot to stop when in the area. Known for the Black Label Burger, but many other selections and some nice brunch options as well. The Black Label Burger definitely lives up to it's reputation. It's a great burger. Cooked perfectly (they tend to under cook, so order a bit... More

Went out for dinner and luckily we got a table for two without a reservation. Pure luck since the restaurant was full. Even in the bar. The nicest waiter I've met in the whole NYC. The duck was beautiful and so was the recommended red wine. You have to take your girl out for dinner here next time in NYC.

We had brunch on Saturday - surprisingly not full. A lot of history and quiet enough that you can talk. Service is VERY good. The food was just so-so. The seasonal fruit bowl up to par. Their "famous" black label burger ($31) was just OK. And unfortunately the steak frites ($33) was not good - a poor cut of meat... More

The food was really great, as excpected. I have to say that they really know how to make the pre drinks in the bar. I had Old Fashion, and that was top notch.

I wouldn't say this burger is THE BEST in New York. It was definitely a good burger, but I've had better honestly. A bit of a turn off was the mouse I saw scurry across the floor near our tables when I entered, and then a staff member sort of laughing about my look of shock, because it's clearly a... More

...period! My daughter's burger was so good that it was the first time she gave her compliments to the chef (true story). And all of us tasted that burger and agreed. The branzino, the halibut, the sides, EVERYTHING was amazing (don't get me started on the soufflés). Even the coffee smelled amazing from tables away, and then tasted even better.... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
