After eating at Salinas and being left very disappointed we weren't feeling very optimistic for a NY tapas experience... then we stumbled across Cata. We reserved a table here and didn't know what to expect... turns out it happened to be one of our best meals of our 2 week holiday and we had to come back a second time... More

We love a good G&T and found this tapas bar by searching for a good place to enjoy a few drinks. Nice friendly service, drinks were great and the food was very fresh and delicious - oxtail empanadas and the lamb meatballs are a must. This is a hidden gem with a relaxed, authentic vibe - try it, it's great.

The location is borderline lower east village and upper Chinatown, it must be a converted stables or something, a nice rustic feeling. We had a party of 6 and tried something like 13 different items, all of them were fantastic. Some highlights: - 2 type croquetas, fried goat cheese, cod fish cakes (baccalao) - Paella, pasta, brussel sprouts, mushrooms, kale... More

Great Spanish tapas. Tasted really good. We shared all courses, and the restaurant fitted them, so there we enough to all of us. Excellent service. I can fully recommend this restaurant.

We were a party of 6 on a Saturday night. We had early reservation (6:30 PM) after a show; it got pretty lively by 7:30 PM. Good space and excellent service. Good selection of inexpensive wines (we had 2 bottles at $55 each). We shared 15 plates (3 being desserts) and just ordered as we finished batches of 2 or... More

Great tapas restaurant with warm atmosphere. The bar area was a little crazy but we were in a separate dining area. Lamb meatballs and fired goat cheese was wonderful. The bacon wrapped dates would be better without the olives. Loved the asparagus with the cumin inspired spices. Would definitely go back...

Cata is a Spanish tapas restaurant on Bowery & Stanton. It is very low key from the outside, but once inside the decor is quite beautiful. This restaurant is a real enigma in downtown Manhattan, as it is very reasonably priced (even cheap) yet the decor and service are comparable to fine dining restaurants. I was especially impressed with their... More
