Arrived on a busy Saturday afternoon, and had to wait outside for 20 minutes- which is completely reasonable as there is very limited space inside. Be prepared with warm clothes if it is chilly out. We shared the Afternoon Tea for 2 for 66$. Scones, finger sandwiches, & tea were all delicious and they have a great selection! It is... More

I lived in the West Village for years and always enjoyed coming to this spot for tea and a quick bite with frends. I recently planned a special day downtown with my wife and kids and added Tea & Sympathy to our agenda for lunch. What a mistake. I am not sure what happened (as I can see from the... More

Absolutely lovely! Try the chicken soup - so good for a cold day. And the lemon coconut cake with custard was delish and guilt-free. Can't wait to go again! Beautiful little place.

We have eaten here on many of our NYC trips, as it is one of my daughter's favorite places. We have never been disappointed. The food is excellent as is the service. The place is small, so there can be a wait for a table, but well worth the wait.

For anyone who'd like to know what it's like to visit the UK, this is it. Unthinkably tiny for the size of its reputation, T&S offers the quintessential menu for a truly British dining experience. I had the Coronation Chicken Sandwich (curried) with a Victoria Sponge Cake and a bottle of elderflower soda. Perfect! The Victoria Sponge was not simply... More

Cozy place with quick service and classic british treats and dishes. A little bit expensive but worth it!

We came here around 5 on a Friday and it was crowded. Your whole party has to be present to be seated FYI! We got a table by the window which was nice. I got the bangers and mash and my gf got the shepherds pie. Everything was delicious. Even the mashed potatoes, which are usually bland in restaurants. For... More

For an expat the search for a real full English can be frustrating, especially in America. The Yanks do some wonderful food, but they really, really do not understand breakfast. The American version of bacon is an abomination... Well, in New York at least, there is an oasis of civilisation and it's name is Tea & Sympathy. It's very small,... More

Terrible, beyond rude, have never forgotten how my poorly they treated my mother here on a special family occasion. And the poor quality doesn't justify the attitude. might I recommend the adorable Podunk Tea room or Alice's Tea Cup if you're in search of a proper cuppa in the city, and being treated like a human being as well -... Great small intimate place for English style tea break. Apple crumble was excellent. I ate two. Located close to transportation lines and other attraction.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
