Thought the meal was great. A variety of tapas each had great flavor and the seafood paella was wonderful. It reminded me of tapas bars in southern Spain. As for being expensive, yes, it was expensive, as for "burnt rice" that is the style. My...More

We told the waiter that the Paella was badly burned. He said the name of the restaurant means the crunchy bottom of the dish and then he proceeded to scrape the bottom black "burnt" crust from the bottom of the pan and we all said...More

We had high hopes for this place but the dishes were small, the food was mediocre and prices were high. I spent $150 on lunch for three and we walked out hungry. The lobster paella was small burnt and a bad choice.

We had high hopes for this restaurant, as we both really like paella. The 2 tapas dishes (octopus and a pear salad) were quite tasty, and the pinot noir was excellent. However, the seafood paella was disappointing--not a lot of taste and a bit undercooked....More

Despite being just off of busy Houston Street, Nolita
maintains a low-key vibe that makes it a pleasant
retreat in the heart of lower Manhattan. Short for
“North of Little Italy,” Nolita was once considered to
be part of Little Italy. Today, the neighbourhood is
popular with young fashionistas popping in and out of
the chic independent boutiques that line Mulberry,
Mott and Elizabeth Streets. In addition to shopping,

Socarrat Nolita's ambience denotes feelings of warmth, comfort and hospitality. Building on its sister restaurant's identity as a small, intimate space comprised primarily of one large communal table, the restaurant also offers banquette, bar and table seating. Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette. Socarrat Nolita also offers several tapas, wines by the glass, Spanish desserts, and sangria.
