I have no joy in writing negative reviews; especially when the people effected seem very pleasant and earnest. Having stayed at this hotel before and having had an enjoyable breakfast, we opted to stop by on a Sunday for lunch en route to visiting a...More

We ate and drank here as guests of the hotel, but I don't think I would have if we hadn't been. It is not particularly enticing from the street, or well advertised. The patio area at the back of the hotel is great, as they...More

This place has a great location next to grand central. It's a small place but it has a back patio. It's a good spot to stop for happy hour

Bar and restaurant attached to Fitzpatrick's Hotel near Grand Central on 44th street. Nice pub atmosphere that appears to be partially outdoors, almost like a covered alleyway, using gas space heaters the day I was there. Friendly service and the burgers were quite good. Fries,...More

So, here we are vacationing in New York stoping by the Wheeltapper for dinner in a Irish "pub" atmosphere. Two things I'd like to point out is; 1. You're not in Ireland 2. This is New York City, Manhattan. So if you want an authentic...More

Stayed at the Fitzpatrick hotel, where the WheelTapper is located. Ate there breakfast for 10 days in a row and never, not even once, were dissapointed. The pancakes are unbelievebly good and the French toast is to die for. The staff were always nice and...More

This Irish-themed bar has great atmosphere -- good food and fast service. If you are staying at the Fitzpatrick hotel it is a perfect place for breakfast or supper.

The service is superb & the atmosphere charming--it's the menu that's lacking. My burger was quite good, but the house salad was oversaturated in dressing, the fries too hot & the apple pie was not warmed & tasted like a grocery store-bought dessert from the...More

Shepherd's Pie was a dream come true and the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies (Kid's plate) rock!

it has the twist of being part of a nice hotel, and the patio area is much better that the "pub" per se which does not offer anything special

Description
The Wheeltapper celebrates the best of a traditional Irish pub, offering contemporary food and drink in an informal atmosphere. Together with the year-round outdoor Patio, this restaurant and bar is the perfect spot for breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch, dinner, or cocktails.

As fitting for a pub so close to Grand Central Terminal, the Wheeltapper's design includes authentic railroad artifacts and memorabilia from the turn of the century. Cozy and warm, the Wheeltapper's two bars, front and back, are comprised of quaint nooks for semi-private dining or drinking, and connected by the Carriage, a passage that closely resembles a classic railroad dining car. A fireplace warms up the back bar in cold weather.

A door takes you from the back bar out to the Patio, a 2,200 square foot outdoor garden wit seating for 48 people and plenty of room to stand and mingle. This unique space is covered with a retractable awning and heated in winter, allowing it to stay open year-round.
