Went fur sushi and saw the seasonal specialty of Live Shrimp. Asked our server to explain and yes it is what he says! Tot eat the tail sashimi style and then they deep fry the heads! It was AMAZING! The shrimp was sweet and tender the heads crunchy and salty. The oyster on the half shell appetizer was prepared uniquely... More

Every time we visit San Diego we make a point of eating at Taka. The quality of the sushi and sashimi is outstanding in our view and there are always interesting specials available. It's great fun to sit at the bar and watch the sushi masters at work! It's a highlight of our visits to the city and the quality... More

People rave about Sushi Ota and I have been to both and the sushi bar at Taka beats it hands down. This beats my Nobu experience in NY and LA AT a quarter of the price. The live prawns with fried head is an experience to have. The sushi melts in your mouth. This is my 3rd visit here and... More

Enjoyed sashimi, nigiri, rolls, and sake with colleagues. We had an early reservations (6:30) and it was almost empty. Stayed for 2 hours and it was completely full with a line at the door when we left. All food was fresh and delicious. The maguro and hamachi sashimis were the real standouts. Easy to recommend.

One word: DELICIOUS! Really busy so be prepared to wait but if you want the freshest fish and seafood available this is the place. In fact, while sitting at the sushi bar I see the chef take out a giant shrimp, it's still moving and trying to make a break for it before the sushi chef ends it, 30 seconds... More

Our family went there to have dinner. Lady was extremely RUDE. She told him we close at 9:30 and didn't want to seat our Family of five. We arrived at the restaurant @ 9:10. Though they welcome two other parties who came after us. My husband confronted her about the two other parties and she had nothing to say!!! Would... More

A small well appointed place in the Gaslamp District. The seaweed salad, not easy to find at most Japanese restaurants, is delicious. Miso soup was average. The Special Ell Roll was seriously awesome. Nice selection of sake, both cold and hot.The menu items are a little pricey, but mostly due to the location. Excellent service.

Live 3000 miles away and this is a destination eatery for us. It's typically first and last evening's dinner when visiting San Diego. Always sit at the sushi bar and the chef's are always personable and make for an enjoyable evening. There are incredible things on the menu and the uni is fresh seven days a week unlike a lot...
