This is just a little place on the corner, but it's a really fun atmosphere, and the food was really good too, and the prices were good.

I was in town for business and a friend recommended this place. Its walking distance from the convention center so we decided to go early in the morning. The place is small but offers your inside and outside seating. I had the pancakes and my friend had one of their specialties. Everything delicious. If you are in town and looking... More

A really nice breakfast spot with heaping helpings. Get the frittata if you go here and then pick up some of their pancake mixes that you can take home. Which is a really cool idea that not many restaurants I've seen do.

I had an early morning breakfast here. The food was great, I had the french toast and fried Spam, yes I said Spam. It brought me back to my youth. I had forgot how tasty it was.

Our concierge recommended we try this cafe and we were not disappointed. Very small and tables are pretty close together not leaving much room for private conversation but it's breakfast right ?! 😬 very fast service and we were in and out in about 30 minutes. Would be difficult if you had a large group I would think. Perfect for... More

Cafe 222 is a very nice little breakfast spot that people living downtown know about, but travelers may not. It is easy walking distance from the major convention hotels on San Diego Bay. There is typically a line - don't be daunted - that just means it's a good place. The food is good, the service is top notch. My... More

We went to Cafe 222 on the very first morning of an autumn tour of California and also the very last morning 2 months later (rounded things off nicely). I can honestly say it was one of the best breakfasts we've eaten. The place is hardly a secret and clearly has a loyal following. Get there early to avoid a... More

They make a great breakfast and specialize in fabulous waffles, but the lunch sandwich selection is also very good.

Made a couple of breakfast visits here on this trip to San Diego but this time, I was a little disappointed. Plastic sausages, over medium eggs with too much of the white remaining uncooked & the potatoes, though nicely browned on the outside, were a little undercooked on the inside. Coffee that was hot & wet but otherwise unremarkable. Despite... More

Read about Bobby Flay saying the french toast was best ever so thought I woud check it out. Since the peanut butter banana french toast was to many $ for my budget I opted for the traditional instead. Waitress was nice enough but took at least 20 minutes before my order arrived. Refilled my water several times not like the... More

Very sorry to hear that you did not care for the French Toast. I will admit it is one of our less-special items on the menu... on the menu for kids mostly due to it's basic-ness. I will check into your syrup comments asap. I do wish you would have said that it was not to your liking, whenever someone... More

Description
Cafe 222 has been the local dining institution for over 20-years in San Diego.
This quirky-corner eatery has become famous from it's many appearances on the
Food Network and for the owner who from time-to-time can be found wearing a waffle on her head.

This shoebox-size of a restaurant has plenty of seating, offers indoor, street side patio dining as well as an upper garden patio area. Dogs and kids are welcome with well-behaved parents.

Reservations are not accepted but if there is a wait to get in it moves quickly and the staff
passes out banana bread and coffee to those in line to make the wait more pleasant.
