Mamma Maria has a great reputation, and it's well deserved. We decided to try it because of their courtesy when my sister-in-law and nephew visited Boston last year. They were looking for a place for him to use the washroom and several places refused them, saying these were only for customer use. The folks at Mamma Maria not only accommodated... More

Exceptionally good food, Italian with an American twist. Quiet so it is possible to talk. attentive staff. Good wine list. Try the lobster pasta , absolutely delicious. The bolognese was also very good. They also offer gluten free pasta. The only negative is that it is not cheap.

The food was off the charts. Everything we ordered was great. I would recommend all of the pastas and try the fava bean appetizer. Don´t go without a reservation. Also don´t arrive early; there is no place to stand around and have a drink. The bar is really small with only two seats and it wasn't designed for people to... More

I had a family gathering from around the country and we needed a table for 8... Not big enough for a private room so were we in one of the upstairs rooms. It is a nice "old neighborhood" place that turned out to be noisy, service slow but with good, not great food. I probably would not go back after... More

Had been out and called to see if I could come in casual attire. I was able to get a reservation and had an exceptional seafood meal- I would go again! Must have reservations!

A bit on the salty side. Also heavy on salad dressing for our "spring salad". But overall still a very good meal. Great service. Nice ambiance. Nice location in the North End.

We celebrate special occasions in this restaurant. It is expensive and relatively formal. We travel often to Italy and the chef here is very good, as good as a fine dining restaurant in Rome or Florence. We recently had fresh tiny fava beans delicately dressed, wrapped in salty, crispy crust of parmesan (or frico), perfect scallops over risottto, lamb three... More

Very good up-scale Italian. Professional and friendly service. Smaller intimate dining rooms keep the noise level low. Easy to see why it’s a highly regarded Boston staple. Would return.

We visited as business dinner. We managed to get a table without reservation. Extensive list of wines. All the pasta was house made. Variety of appetizers - oyster dish was good size not like the one you get in the gulf but like the one in Europe or Japan. Relaxed atmosphere. Good to have Business dinner like this and we... More

Staying in North End

Neighbourhood Profile
North End
Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church and Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Take a rest in a cafe on Hanover street and observe the quirky, European character of the North End.
