Having seen mixed reviews, and going with a friend who knows the owner I was not 100% convinced this was going to be a dining experience I would enjoy. Boy how wrong was I. From the greeting to the farewell everything was fantastic. We had the Motze Monday, where the chef prepares some of their favourite dishes along with something... More

We went to Bar Tartine last week to celebrate my birthday early, and were incredibly disappointed by the experience -- particularly due to the awful service. I had been to Bar Tartine once before and enjoyed the experience (and likely would've considered the experience 3-4 stars), but this was my boyfriend's first time at the restaurant and we both were... We stopped in for a pre-dinner appetizer (wish I could have stayed for dinner). The house Chardonnay was great, bread and cheese spread and chopped salad to share we were in heaven.

Visited because I had a ham and cheese croissant craving. Glad I did. While the weekend line was long, it did move and the people watching was fun. The food was wonderful, buttery, flakey, moist yum.

We visited on a Wednesday evening and were told, as a table of 6 that we needed to have the tasting menu. This was $75 per person - with no options for only taking a couple of the four courses. The combinations of food were bizarre, nothing seemed to go and it was all so salty! The two chicken dishes... More

This restaurant is quite possibly my favorite in SF (and perhaps the world). All the inventive ingredients (black garlic, various stocks, farmers cheese, all seasonings) are hand-prepared (see their cookbook) and combined in surprising ways that are more than mere fusion. Something like Hungarian meets Japanese meets the Andes. The decor used to be a stylish French bistro, simple and... More

As a part of a large party, we had the set menu. It was very much like having tapas, lots of small portions of different items. Most of them, although unusual, were very good. Through the meal, the help was good, although as the restaurant got more crowded, the wait staff became more scarce and service slowed considerably. We waited... More

This is a wonderfully cozy little place that made me feel really at home sitting at the bar. I'm new to the city but immediately made great friends with the staff and the others seated at the bar. I would highly recommend their plum soup.

We ordered the family menu (tasting portions) as we wanted a taste of tartine bakery's famous breads. In the end, the menu only had 1 choice of bread from the bakery (porridge bread). The rest of the food were so-so only with no particular taste coming through cleanly. We would skip this place next time.

This is a fixed prix restaurant. There is no menu. I assume the menu is assembled daily based on what is freshly available. We added the wine which was from a local maker who specialized in unadulterated wines. The wines were great with the food and well paired. We also got to chat to the maker which was fun. The...
