Just like the ballet which keeps on getting better and better, Max's remains an old standby, but they continue to create new gems.. Yesterday I had an amazing poke and cucumber salad. It is more comfort food not upscale cuisine. I miss the chicken liver salad but it seems that it is not a current favor so it has been... More

Near City Hall, Civic Center, Opera/Symphony here is a perfect diner for good eats and great price. Decently priced with fast friendly staff, they will ensure you are fed and on time for any showings or performances. This is also a great location to do any meetups if if you have business near the Superior Court or City Hall.

I had lunch at Max's with 9 business colleagues. The service was fast, efficient and very friendly. The pork bun wrap looked excellent. It competed with the Rueben (which is ALWAYS excellent) as the best sandwich. The chicken salad sandwich was a bust: too much mayonnaise. The salads all looked terrific, but the Kale Salad looked the best. The chicken... More

Try the soups and salads at Max's, and it will still feel like your grandma is in the kitchen hovering over you. The soups are healthy and full of comfort: Russian cabbage soup, chicken matzah ball, clam chowder, chili and a daily special. There are a variety of large salads, including a Greek, albacore tuna, Cobb, Chinese chicken and beet.... More

I live in the neighborhood and have been going to this place for the past 8 years . This place has really gone down hill. The food is average , way overpriced and very noisy. The workers sing for "entertainment" but none of them can carry a tune. Not sure if I will frequent this place again .

We LOVE Max's in Burlingame! Great food.....great service....but this place.....no words can explain how fun this place is! We waled there for me (Matzo Ball Soup is my FAVORITE!) and waht followed was just plain fun! Crazy busy! We decided to sit at the bar for dinner, WHAT A SHOW! The bartender was on spot (with way tooooooooo many people)... More

Pastrami sandwich used to be big enough for two persons. Now, at $17, small amount of pastrami on very thin seemingly day-old rye bread, small amount of potato salad with too much mayo - oh, and a pickle. Matzo ball soup - $2 more with the sandwich - great deal except that the soup was more like chicken vegetable with... More

This place has really deteriorated. We have been going there for 25 years or more, but it has been about two years since our last visit because of our move from the Bay Area. It was abominable. We arrived at 5:30 well before the opera. It went bad immediately. It took at least 10 minutes to simply get a wine... More

We have been eating at various Max's for more than twenty years. We have seen some locations close, but the food has always been good. We ate there Saturday night before the opera with friends. My latkes were okay, but their food was terrible. Chicken pot pie was soggy and almost inedible. Ceasar salad was brown and the anchovies were... More

A post-opera trip to Max's for a late dinner proved to be somewhat of a disappointment. The menu looks inviting, and the house rules are cute, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so they say. As a place for a deli sandwich, it is not recommended. The corned beef had the texture and taste of processed... More
