The food was amazing. They have a set menu which had soup, rice and other dishes which were very good. The decor reminds you on old Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong movies. The experience would have been better if they clean their lanterns and paintings. It is just going to waste. Besides that, food is amazing!

Walk into this restaurant, and you are transported to historic China, with palatial chandeliers, giant murals, and decorations brought over from China. Ask for one of their private booths for a very special dining experience, with the curtain closed, the place feels all yours. It was established in 1920, and is the real deal. All of their food I've tried... More

Food was awesome, we were in China town and did not know what to eat. When we went in it was clean. I got egg rolls and they were super good. I also got rice soup and it was really good. The service was fast. Don't listen to reviews that saw that this restaurant is bad. It also has options... More

After walking through Chinatown, we wanted to stop for drinks. Three of us had soft drinks and I had a beer. The wait staff was very cordial and the soft drinks got free refills. The 1920 decor is still beautiful.

Our Goldenaires Senior Group had lunch at Far East Cafe before heading to the Buddha's Universal Church for a Chinese Play. The food was very good. All 10 people at our table enjoyed it. We had a chicken and vegetable dish, shrimp fried rice, broccoli beef, chow mein, sweet and sour pork, a vegetarian egg roll, and a green bean... More

It's an OK place for a light snack and some tea or beer. It's quite an institution and worth checking out. Quirky ambience, karaoke rooms upstairs.

Far East cafe seemed very authentic to us. My nephew lives in San Francisco and he brought us here. The starter potstickers were beautiful, as was the main chow mien and beef brocoli. We had our own booth. It was great fun... Far East cafe is well worth a visit...

I had a great meal here with terrific service. I was wondering around Chinatown and passed by and since it had interesting decor and people in it, I went in. I was not disappointed. I was promptly seated and had a big menu of items to choose from. I went with Cashew Prawns and Seafood Clay Hot Pot and Rice.... More

I have been coming to this place for years. But on my last visit, the prices were way up, and the quality of the food was down. Usually we order a few dishes from the menu for our group. But this time we decided to order the Peking Duck Dinner, which offers several dishes for $25.95 per person. That's because... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
