I was not impressed with the restaurant, the food, or the service. There is a high-pitched alarm on the entrance door that beeps loudly three times whenever anyone enters or leaves. For me, this alone would make the place a never-visit-again experience. Service was slow and unenthusiastic. In fairness, we were in a hurry and it may have seemed worse... More

Cafe Ethiopia is an unassuming little restaurant on Valencia St that offers a nice variety of tasty dishes served in traditional Ethiopian style. The portions are perfectly sized and delicious, and the price is very reasonable. Best visited with others, as more dishes can be shared and a variety of palates can be pleased.

We went here based on others reviews, and were glad we did. The food is served in traditional style and you use your hands. SO worth the adventure - the food was excellent, and reasonably priced in an area that is becoming quite upscale and getting known for its fusion and other exotic restaurants. The only reason we didn't give... More

If you try Cafe Ethiopia be prepared to eat with your hands and fingers. You can request a fork, but that would spoil the fun. We ordered a combination plate which is only $14.50 and you can order 2 meat items and 1 vegetarian dish from several choices. We chose Lamb Tsebhi Begee (Beg Wat): Tender lamb with bones cooked... While visiting San Francisco, I was really craving some Ethiopian food and this did not disappoint. I decided to go on my birthday, and although I could tell my friends were not as keen on the idea, they all came along and were willing to give it a try, even one very picky young teen. And they all loved it!... More

This was a wonderful little mom and pop restaurant. The food was fresh, flavorful and fantastic! Very fun to try something... More

This is not fine dining, but it is a delicious, home-cooked Ethiopian taste experience. We enjoyed it all - sega tibs (beef), misir wat (spicy lentil stew), alecha (mixed veggie stew), but our very favorite was the Chicken and spinach stew. So good we had to order an extra serving! All of this is served on injera and with more... More

At this Ethiopian restaurant, you have to order, separately, and for a minimum of about ten dollars, all the individual little sides that normally come with a plate. At the Ethiopian restaurants that I'm used to in Seattle, things are done very differently - you order a plate with a theme, and get a small amount of all the sides... More

The cubed beef had me wanting more after the first and last bite!!! Now I crave the spicy, delicious flavor! Not hard to find but its a nice drive. quiet little place. If you want to try more than one thing, they have combo plates.

My wife and I were visiting from rural Western North Carolina and staying in The Mission...a universe away from where we live! On this trip we were all about experiencing new things and new cusines, and our host suggested we try Cafe Ethiopia at some point. We are very glad we did, as we enjoyed it throughly. Its truly different... More
