We took a long taxi ride to Tartine and it was worth it! I just HAD to have a Morning Muffin from reading so much about them and it was just amazing. I could hardly decide what to order so I ate way too many things - the croissants are fabulous, bigger than most in France but just as good,... More

It might be that I am spoilt with gorgeous cafes at home but I thought that Tartine bakery was over rated. We bought 3 cakes between us, coffee and some toasted sandwiches and they were all pretty average.

If you look beyond the ridiculous lines and the cramped bakery where you can't possibly find a seat, this is certainly one of the top 5 bakeries I have visited in the USA after many, many trips in many years of traveling. It's not that you couldn't find such places in Europe, but in the US they are very rare.... More

I love well made pastry, be it a simple chewy oatmeal cookie or multi layer cake I wouldn't attempt at baking. So I was completely excited to drop by Tartine, a bakery I know from their book (their lemon tart recipe is my go to recipe in baking). I was curious how their recipes, typically containing copious amounts of butter... More

After a 40-hour fast for colonoscopy, I came straight to Tartine to buy their incredible chocolate pudding. I took it home and ate the whole thing, including using my fingers to get every dab of chocolate out of the container. The breads, cookies, quiches, bread pudding, croissants, and cakes are also out of this world. Just ask Alice Waters of... More

Croissants and the quiche and the gougere were all burnt on top. When I complained to the staff, she said that is their style a little "overdone" - well, where I come from we call that burnt with a pronounced burnt taste! !!!# very expensive place for burnt breakfast! !!!!

It's busy here, and crowded and it can take a really long time to get an espresso. The baked goods are beautifully displayed. The rhubarb cake was good but the scones were dried out. It's hard to find a cab in the neighborhood.

Well worth the wait for an amazing breakfast. Had the quiche, delicious. And took a croissant to go!. Sat outside and people watched. Really great place for breakfast. we stopped on our way to the airport. Glad we did!

Everybody in San Francisco loves Tartine. It is decent, not great. Had a variety of items and can honestly say they were all good. However, certainly not deserving of the reputation it has. Anyone who thinks Tartine is incredible, I encourage you to come to Vancouver. Frequent, Swiss Bakery, Thomas Haas, Thierry, Croissanterie, Ganache or any of several other establishments... More
