I had the dibi with chicken in yassa sauce, which was a delicious combination of spices and savory flavors. We also had fried plantains for the table. Food was good, but the service was slow, and they pretty unceremoniously kicked us out. We were expecting music in the lounge next door, but they closed that down and told us to... More

Good quality food and an excellent opportunity to sample West African food in a place with great atmosphere. Although the bar seemed at first like a drinking destination for loud white collage boys we were soon soothed by the delicious food and the band's music and by the time we'd finished our meal the college boys had gone the band... If you go before 7pm the happy hour deal is an appetizer, a main meal and a house drink (which are delicious and unique) for $20. A bargain in SF. I would strongly recommend the lamb in any of the dishes. Excellent and their homemade spiced rum is great!!

Fort the last few years, I've driven 2+ hours to have spend my birthday evening at Little Baobab. Sometimes I have to talk my newbie friends into joining me for Senegalese food, but every time, they end up coming back. Such an inviting, amazing experience, I wish I could make the trek more often. The Dibi with Yassa sauce and... More

I've been trying to go to Little Baobab for ages. I finally made it with a group of friends on a Saturday night, and we decided not to get intimidated by the long line or $5 cover ($10 for guys, I know...). We all had a wonderful time dancing our souls out til 2am. The DJs made sure everyone enjoyed... More

I've been eating at Bissap Baobab for more than 10 years. The West African food is not only fabulous but also authentic. The flavors at Bissap Baobab always remind me of the delicious food I ate when I traveled to Senegal, Mauritania, and Mali. On my most recent visit we ate the avocat creole, tropical salad, mafe, and yassa. Thiakry... More

Description
Ever since first opening our doors in 1996, Bissap Baobab has brought the succulent flavors of Senegal to San Francisco's Mission District. Choose from a full range of gourmet African dishes, then wash it all down with one of our homemade juices: hibiscus, tamarind, or ginger, or with our signature cocktails. A Senegalese Restaurant from 5:30pm to 10:00pm Bissap Baobab turns into an eclectic Dance Party after 10pm several days per week serving African, Latin and International Musics (check our calendars for updates) Starting in July 2015 on Frid + Sat, Bissap Baobab is opening "The Elephant Lounge" with bottle service and African tapas at 10:30pm during Paris-Dakar African Dance Party. More than just a restaurant or a club, Bissap Baobab is a community center, with a laid back, yet distinctly cosmopolitan, worldly vibe which upholds the concept of an African village. Our name is a tribute to the meaningful symbol of life, community, and culture in Africa -- the Baobab tree. Just like its mighty namesake, Bissap Baobab provides sustenance and shelter for a multicultural community sharing in food, dance, and celebration. Join us for a meal, a song, or a dance, and become part of the family!
