The food is fantastic and this restaurant is one that is not to be missed. We are repeat customers over and over. The staff and waiters are professional and first class. It has a very classy local vibe and honestly, everything on the menu is very pleasing. The Amatriciana pasta dish is one of our favorites as well as the... More

Excellent Italian food and service. Very "Old School" restaurant and this is one I plan to return to on future trips and will recommend to others. Hard to find places like this and when I do will keep returning.

Great evening all around. We had a group of 10 for a Friday night dinner and it couldn't have gone better. Not cheap but you know that going in. The waiter kept the group entertained the whole evening. We went with all his recommendations and were not disappointed. Some great memories created that night which is hard to beat.

We did enjoy our visit to the restaurant... quiet, nice ambience, food was good, service nice, nothing tops out. I'm not sure we will return. The restaurant was warm and we were seated on the path to the kitchen so there was a lot of traffic. Our waiter while nice had a strong accent and always seemed preoccupied. Don't get... More

Had some charcuterie and some pasta, we really liked it. We found it by accident and would definitely go back! Nothing super fancy but good food!

Had lunch there today Sunday ... the street was vibrant but this restaurant was almost empty and had no vibe. The servers are nice but stiff. We ordered the carpaccio that was good and the mussels that were very bland. The carbonara and the house pasta were very good as well as the lamb chops. For desert the crème caramel... More

This restaurant has been here for ever. Locals dine here as well as almost every out of town visitor. If you like good Italian food go to this place and you cannot go wrong with any dish. The staff is great and will help you with any dish.

Recommended to us by the Ritz as a classic Italian restaurant. If noisy and efficient is classic, this is it. Our server, in formal wear, spent no time relating, but did make good recommendations. They are very proud of their wines. To keep the cost down, we had a bottle of their own vineyard, at about about $60 bucks, and... More

A well established Italian with a full range of traditional specialities. But the appetizers generally don't yell Italian and they are unwilling to do a half order of their marvelous pastas as an appetizer. Special swordfish is as good as it gets. Too bad you can't start it with a half order of spaghetti vongole!!

This is another favorite date night restaurant in the North Beach. We sat downstairs which has a totally different feel than upstairs. It has dim lighting making it feel like you're in a winery. Our server was accommodating with a pasta dish and had no problem adding something else to it. Pasta was perfect! Dessert was bliss. It was so... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
