Wonderful atmosphere. Great food. There was a large group so we all tasted each other's food. Calamari appetizer was the best I ever had. Crab cakes were yummy. The almond stuffed dates were good. The special shortribs was indeed special. Sooo tender and delicious. Others had steak - some dry some perfect. The fish was good. Tasted numerous desserts at... More

I have been looking for a Bay Area restaurant to come close to the excellence I found in San Sebastian and elsewhere in Spain. Piperade is the best one I have found. We sat at the bar and shared 4 of the Petit Plats. First was the Strip Steak Crudo. Very unique and delicious. We loved the accents from the... More

Friday night dinner for two; nice ambiance, full restaurant but still could have a conversation. The namesake, piperade, with stewed peppers, onions, and garlic, topped with a little poached egg, was satisfyingly delicious. Twice-cooked oxtail, shredded, was tangy and spicy; the juices infused the bed of wilted, julienned napa cabbage, which was actually more delightful than the meat itself. Albacore... More

We have been going to Piperade for a number of years and return there whenever we are in SF. It is a Basque restaurant and always has unique items available. The food is exceptional, the ambiance pleasant and quiet enough to have a nice conversation without shouting. Full bar available and a nice selection of wines. Great hidden gem.

I went to Piperade for a business lunch. Was fairly quiet (perhaps because it was a Monday) but it was very pleasant. The service was excellent and the Executive came to our table towards the end of our meal to see how everything had gone. The grilled octopus starter was on of the best I have ever had & my... More

Consistently good food combined with relaxed but unobtrusive service. Good variety of dishes prepared so something for everyone.

We ordered just about every small plate on the menu....(there were 4 of us) and we had tree separate main courses, I had the beef cheeks, my grandson had the rack of lamb, and his girlfriend had the salmon. I can honestly say we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with the wonderful food, attentive service and get ambience. This is a perfect... More

We discovered this Basque restaurant as we were exploring the Ferry Building and walking toward China Town. We decided to stop in for a quick lunch. Not being particularly hungry, we shared a few "petits plats" - including a soup, salad, etc. The server divided each dish without our asking and served us each a half portion. Delicious food and... I can't say enough regarding Piperade. Everything there is fantastic, service, atmosphere and of course fantastic food. We live on the San Francisco peninsula and Can't stand the traffic coming in to the city, but it is definately worth it coming to Piperades.

I had a group of 25 people at Piperade for dinner based on my recommendation. I had not been there in years. But the food was as amazing as it was years ago. Everyone loved the experience, food quality, selection, .... Recommended for sure.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
