I had breakfast here twice (returned because I was so content the first time). The only really good coffee I had in town - and with soy milk!! Really nice breakfasts, nice staff, nice ambience, reasonably priced.

One of my favorite spots in the city. It hasn't changed much in 20 years. The desserts and coffee are excellent especially after a fabulous meal at any of the great restaurants in North Beach. The tiramisu is excellent and so is the sacrapantina. The location and atmosphere is what it's all about. The kids love the authentic italian sodas... More

We always make a stop at Caffe Greco when we are in S.F. Right on Columbus near all the Italian restaurants, we got a generous double espresso and my wife said her latte was delicious. I gave in and got a triple almond biscotti - fabulous! Quite a nice selection of pastries and gelatos, too.

The food is very good, the service is a bit slow but very friendly, there is plenty of seating, and the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth a visit.

3 years ago, I traveled the area and start smelling strong Espresso 100 meters before the coffee shop. Since then every time visit to the city include a double espresso at Greco- it became a tradition! Greco serves a great Italian strong coffee.

This place has a nice atmosphere, food and coffee. Kids had the best looking waffles with fruit I have seen in a restaurant while the adults enjoyed made to order egg sandwiches that were equally good. Great coffee, friendly service, rustic but clean bathroom. What else can one wish for?

We stopped in for a quick lunch and were very pleased. We had 2 of their panini sandwiches. The paninis were great and not oily or greasy at all. They also had excellent cannolis.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
