Mama's restaurant based in Washington Square in San Francisco is a very popular restaurant. It does not take any reservations. So the queues are very long and you could easily wait for ages. Due to the size of restaurant, they have to regulate the number of customers coming in. By the time it was our turn to enter, we were... More

Finally decided to wait in 40 minute line to get in and experience breakfast at mamas. Super nice staff and adorable ambience. I spent $22 on a crab cake Benedict and unfortunately could not eat the crabcake as mushy texture and did not taste right. Filled with yellow bell pepper and a bit fishy. Was excited as crab season opened... More

My husband & I arrived at Mama's for breakfast around 9am on a Wednesday morning. We wanted a bigger breakfast than our small budget hotel provided so I searched for breakfast spots & Mama's looked high on the list. It's a small, cute cafe. We waited for a few minutes outside to get in (a good sign in my book).... More

My wife and I had breakfast at Mama's on a sunny Saturday morning and can't recommend the food highly enough. However, it doesn't take bookings so be prepared to queue for what could be an hour. Super friendly and efficient staff and the menu is extensive. So mush so it was difficult knowing what to order. Can recommend the south... More

We went to Mama's for brunch on the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed. There is usually a line outside as the seating area is fairly limited, but it moves very quickly. We had the smoked salmon omelette and the breakfast sandwich special. The food was truly outstanding. We were fortunate to be seated at the banquette to... More

Visited Mama's again and had the same breakfast sandwich and totally loved it. I enjoy their baked ham, eggs and cheese sandwich. I also tried their silver dollar pancakes and those were good too. Brought my boyfriend with me and off all the breakfast spots we visited while in San Fran, Mama's was his favorite, so now I have him... More

The line for breakfast starts forming around 7am but it is well worth the wait. Extraordinary omelettes and delicious cinnamon French toast. The portions are quite large.

There are a lot of great options to eat in the city. We waited almost 2 hours in line. The food was good and so were the deserts; to us the dessert was better than the breakfast. Bring your phone fully charged and be ready to stand in line.

We stopped here for our first breakfast in San Francisco...boy did we make a good decision! We had to wait about 20ish minutes before getting inside to sit down but it was beautiful outside and the food was worth the wait. Super cute and cozy inside, the pancakes were amazing!! Will definitely be back the next time we visit!

Established in 1951.
The family of Mama and Papa Sanchez, serves up traditional and innovative breakfast dishes in "Little Italy", the famous North Beach District in San Francisco. Across the street from the beautiful Washington Square Park, Mama's legions of fans line up early and throughout the day. We use the freshest of local products, imported Italian meats to fill our fluffy omelettes, homemade jam, fresh baked breads, pastries and other delectable dishes. We invite you to try our little restaurant and become part of the Mama's Family.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
