The vibe and the food here were both great. We had a delicious brunch in this beautiful Hayes Valley bistro but the service really let us down. Our server was pleasant but dis interested and her support staff seemed like zombies going through motions.Requesrs for water and cream for coffee required multiple flaggings of different people.I would certainly return but hope management... We were relegated to one of several tiny tables for 4 in front. Took some time to get a server who then disappeared several times for 15 minutes at a time. Try the Lucid

We had travelled from the UK to San Francisco to get married and honeymoon. We had looked at this place on-line with a view to possibly holding our (small) after wedding reception dinner event. We were so glad we chose to do so! The ambiance (Friday afternoon/evening) was fantastic and whilst the place was busy with customers we had great... More

We've been for brunch and for drinks and apps, and have had a consistently excellent experience at Absinthe. The cocktails are top notch, real standouts for a restaurant. And all the food we've had has been really good, from popcorn to a little gem salad to perfectly scrambled eggs to butternut squash pancakes to a duck confit eggs benedict.

I have to admit that my first marriage died here during a very awkward meal but I don't blame this place. The food is fine. It used to be cool but cool has moved on. A solid choice for the hood.

Hemingway's cocktail is on the menu here, along with a lot of other interesting things. I have dined here perhaps 10 times, and have never been disappointed. In fact, it is a go-to favorite when I am in SF, and I love showing it off to people who haven't had the pleasure yet. When I dined there last, I had... More

Absinthe is a good place to go with guests driving in as it has valet parking. The service has always been amazing and the food is good too. Normally not into french fries but I always make an exception for my visits to Absinthe.

We came to this restaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday. We shared a few dishes and they were all pretty good. We had the salad, baked mac and cheese (pretty amazing!) and the mushrooms (delicious). We also shared a steak. (Okay). For dessert, we shared a chocolate dessert. Our service was okay. Expected better. A good restaurant to go to... More

Super ambience. Mostly locals. Good bar tenders and drinks. I haven't eaten there, but my daughter says that the burgers are great. A wonderful spot for a night-cap.

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighbourhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
