South of Market Streets keeps changing. The cityscape has been getting a facelift at a glacial pace, but my friends and I were able to dine at a humble cafe called Moya. We ordered a veggie platter with doro tibs, which is a sautéed chicken breast dish, and Ethiopian sourdough flatbread injera. I have only had Ethiopian food once over... More

Stopped by this spot while visiting our niece, who had never eaten Ethiopian food. We have, in several cities, and this was some of the best we've ever had. Our niece loved it, and will introduce her friends to it. The injera was good, and cut into three inch strips to make it easier to tear off. We had a... More

I tried the Shiro, which is made of chick peas, with Injera. The food tasted good except for some spicy green chili peppers that I could not bear. One thing that I look forward to at Ethiopian restaurants is the Telba, Ethiopian flax seed smoothie. Moya did not have Telba. The food was pricier than the other Ethiopian restaurants that... More

This place is small and you have to wait to get your food but the food is amazing. There was one lady there who ran the restaurant. She took our order and then started making the food. We could see her cooking the food in a pan on the stove. We had to wait some time for our food because... More

Great vibe and wonderful food. It will satisfy without feeling heavy. Fresh ingredients make it a wonderfully healthy, yet decedent experience.

It was my first time with Ethiopian food and I just loved it! As the menu was completely new for me, I just asked for a suggestion from the lovely lady who works there and we had a delicious meal with a veggie plate and another one with chicken (a very traditional one); unfortunately I just can't remember the names.... I like Ethiopian food. This is something I look for whenever I get to a place. Moya is very close to our office in 9th street.

This is a small restaurant run by a woman who loves to cook. It is still very authentic and has not become a large commercial space. You can ask for mild, medium or spicy food. Only complaint would be that the business hours are very short and it is also shut on sundays.

During my lunch break from work I decicided to stop here for a quick meal because I was curious about the ethiopian cousine. I had an ethiopian sandwitch with salad and I couldn't say if I liked it or not, it was simply a new flavor to me. Overall I have to say it was an avarage experience and not... More

This is a great place to eat. Service was top notch and the food was excellent. They also asked if we wanted vegetarian food served on a different plate which was a nice touch. Also recommended dishes to us!

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
