This is a unique Japanese-influcenced steakhouse with attentive service, but it is not extraordinary enough to warrant the extortionate price tag. It is very easy to spend $200/person without even entertaining a conversation with the sommelier. Observations: 1. Declining the waiter's menu suggestions should not be met with an expression of utter defeat. 2. A three digit Waygu steak should... More

Having made a small detour from London to Florida via San Francisco to see my stepdaughter, her family and their new house, I wanted to take them out for dinner to a good restaurant where I too would enjoy the food. Foie Gras and a good steak being among my fabourites, I picked Alexander's Steak House in San Francisco rather... More

While the main entree is still a cut of beef, Alexander prepares the steak and all that goes along with in in a different style. The side dishes are not your usual steakhouse ones, but an esoteric take on the dish, i.e. cream Brusell sprouts and not cream spinach. Shoestring fries with a dipping sauce and not ketchup. The lemon... More

This is my second time in this place and again i really enjoyed all courses. This time I didn't order wagyu steak instead I decided to try fillet on bone with foie gras. Delicious! Same for starter and desert.

Don't get me wrong, the food here was delicious but some of the steak prices were crazy and unless you are up on your knowledge of cow breads and take your steak eating as an art form, the menu reads as a tad pretentious. The food is cooked to a high standard and I can not fault the taste or... More

Been to this place twice in the last 6 months and really enjoy the steak, the service and the experience here. The steak choice is amazing, its cooked well, tastes divine. The place is expensive and you need to book in advance but the experience is classy.

Well worth the price. Service was excellent, we had at least three staff servicing us at any point. I had the dry aged T-Bone, fingerling potatoes, and Brussel sprouts. Potatoes were okay, but the steak was the best I've had. Drink selection was top notch Highly recommend if in the area.

Great food but service lousy. Snobbish Somalier. And staff not friendly. Also a cold draft that made our guests done with jackets and scarfs. We told staff they ignored us. So great food but not good staff. They think they are royalty

Dined here for business and had the best steak I have ever had. Big statement I know but this was heavenly. Perfectly cooked, tender and the mushroom sauce subtle and amazing. This will not be the cheapest meal you have in the US but it will be the one you remember. We also had the corn soup which was also... More

I was fortunate enough to attend a work related dinner here. I had some green tea before dinner which was delicious. I tried the Hamachi Shot, the Edamame, the Filet Mignon, and two desserts. The whiskey selection was amazing. I tried the Elmer T. Lee based on the servers suggestions. It was excellent. Great service. If you want to know... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
