Stockholm is one of those little Wisconsin towns from the mid 1800’s along the Mississippi River. And at one time the town boasted three general stores in the area; only one survives – Stockholm Pie and General Store. Pie is their main claim to fame as I personally witnessed by a constant trickle of customers entering the store for pie during my recent visit. Everyone waited patiently as the person behind the counter tried to accommodate everyone’s pie preferences. I walked around that little campus of three or more shops and was intrigued at how “old met new”; old architecture of yesteryear that is, verses the more modern goods for sale within. From what I could gather there were several options to choose from such as lunch, sandwiches, savory pies, soups & salads, preserves, candies, home décor… There were full size pies, 6” pies, and pie cookies. I purchased a blueberry pie cookie and it really was a most tasteful delight. The pies are really priced in the high range, but are they really? How are they compare in price when compared to other pie places of such caliber in the U.S.? All I know is you pay a little more for that best cut of steak, for that lobster, for that award winning pie – Afterall, you pay a little more for the best.

We visited the restaurant in Red Wing, MN, yesterday for lunch. I was a bit concerned because we had a larger group, including three children, and didn't know if there would be room. However, they seated us all together and brought our food out quite quickly. They checked on us at least a couple of times to ask if we needed anything and to make sure our food was all right. The food was just delicious. We had a variety of sandwiches, a chicken pot pie, the chicken pot pie soup, and salad. Everything was very tasty and we all enjoyed our lunch to the utmost. It was an excellent experience all the way around. I can't wait to go back.

It is really gratifying to see a business that does everything right in difficult times flourish. We make a little loop down US61 to Wabasha across the river to Nelson and back north through Stockholm any time we feel housebound. We always stop at Stockholm Pie for lunch on that trip and they never disappoint us. The sandwiches and pot pies are great, their in-house jellies are spectacular (especially the Peach Blueberry Preserves, which came highly recommended by one of the owners), and you can't beat the pie. The art gallery is always stocked with great local art and is worth a stop all by itself.

After reading the reviews I was so excited to try this place! As each mile ticked by along the beautiful drive my anticipation grew. We arrived shortly after 2 in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I am sorry to say that $6 for a piece of the lemon/lemon pie is so not worth it. The filling was grainy and the crust tasted like a frozen pie crust. The man that helped me was a tad rude when I asked if they had the peanut butter fudge pie which we had driven a half hour to get. He bluntly stated we should have called ahead. I get it, it’s covid, business’ are struggling...but no need to be rude. Personally I could have, and do make a better pie, but since we were on the celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary trip I thought I would treat myself due to the high reviews. T’was not an acceptable experience for me. Sorry Stockholm...you need better pie and customer service. Unlike Arnold Schwarzenegger...I will not be back.

So very sorry to hear things did no go well for you on your visit. We would have loved to hear from you about your dissatisfaction when you were in the store so that we could have done something to make it better for you. Please, please let us know what we can do to make it up to you. Its true, we could very well be out of a pie flavor by 2 pm, but very sorry to hear his response was not appropriate to you. Yes, we do encourage people calling ahead - not because of covid actually, but because demand has never, ever been higher and we do indeed encourage folks to call ahead if they want something special. Just like any bakery, you do run out. So sorry it was the pie you wanted! Very sorry to hear about the Double Lemon - thats the pie that Gourmet Magazine said was one of the 50 best things they ate one year.. and the recipe has not changed even one little bit.. it is a different pie - with the cornmeal in the chess base and the lemon in the crust, and that homemade english lemon curd...but boy is it popular... we cant ever make enough of those!

We visited yesterday. I'd visited years ago & loved the service & pie. We detoured 2 hours out of our way to visit again. I found the menu a little unclear since I did not see a list of available whole pies (although they listed 6" & by the slice. The 6" heading was also smeared and written in tiny letters so I did not initially know that was the list of 6" pies.) I was trying to figure out what was available as a whole pie. The man at the counter was curt & somewhat condescending, and clearly seemed annoyed by my questions. He then answered the phone and a delivered the same rude tone to his customer of the phone (commenting that they were busy & had a line out the door... which wasn't really true.) The store did become busy but that's no reason to display your stress & frustration to the customers. I own a business and signage & customer service are key. I saw two other recent reviews mentioning rude service, so I think the owners & managers really need to address this ASAP. The pie was very good, but we walked out feeling less excited about the place given the curt, somewhat rude service.

When I finally got my slice of pie, it was pretty tasty. Nice crisp crust and flavor full filling. You order at the counter, where a sign says you get a discount for cash. I paid with cash and no discount. After about 15 minutes I saw my slice placed in the window and the cooked called "order up". The fellow who brings it walked by it several times, but ignored it. No other orders were there, 5 minutes later I was able to get his attention and he dismissed me with a generic " your order is almost ready" I asked him to check the pie that has been sitting in the window. Pie, Finally! It shouldn't be so hard.

So sorry to hear about the issues! Very sorry to hear it wasn't as timely as it should have been. Can i ask what day you were here? That way we can do some re training. Concerning the cash discount. We dont advertise a cash discount. You will find on all the menu boards in large letters that the prices shown are the cash prices reflecting the price you will pay using cash. The sign on the counter says the exactly the following " NOTICE" Stockholm Pie Company has a cash incentive of 4%. All pricing reflects the cash purchase price. Any purchase made with a credit card will have the 4% Non-Cash adjustment added to the total" Just wanted to make sure readers understand, there absolutely is not a "fake discount for cash." Really sorry that wasn't communicated well to you. We will work on a better way to communicate that to people. I'm really glad you the pie was good and hope you will give us another chance. :)

Best pie we have ever eaten in a restaurant! Wow! The (lard) crust was divine. The cherry and peach-blueberry pie were both amazing. Lots of delicious choices. The pecan chicken salad was soooo good! Lots of fun drink options. Nice places to sit in and outside in warmer weather. Purchased some filled pie crust cookies to share and the recipient was delighted by them. Fun store to visit: candy, gifts, jams, books… Great little town to walk around and shop little stores! Will return. Recommend.

I was really disappointed with my experience at the Stockholm Pie and General Store. I had heard really good things about it from friends and was very excited to try some of their savory and dessert pies, but I never got the chance. I walked into the store and saw three employees behind the counter chatting. One girl was standing right by the register and as I walked in I smile and said "hello". She looked away from her conversation with the other two women, saw me, and then turned back to the conversation without acknowledging me. I was a little miffed but thought that maybe she didn't hear me and didn't know how to respond so I walked up to the glass freezer that housed the ice cream and perused the flavors for a couple minutes. Then I moved over to the register and looked up at the large menu board, hoping to finally be acknowledged so I could ask which pie she recommended. I noticed she again turned away from the conversation to glance at me (and by this point I was probably overacting my consternation in the hopes of eliciting some help from one of the employees) and yet still I got nothing from her. Then I turned my attention from the menu board to her, making it seem like I was ready to order (while in fact I still wanted to ask some questions but just was trying to be more obvious that I needed some customer service) and stood like that for a full minute without any of the three women noticing me before deciding I had had enough and so I left the store. Yes, I could've said, "excuse me" or something like that, but I really think if someone wants customers than they need to make an effort to make the customer experience a good one. My experience was far from that and in such an environment where there were plenty of staff to help, no other waiting customers, and I was shown that my business was less important than some juicy conversation.

Had to finally get out and away from the house today. Took a great drive along the Mississippi to Stockholm. Ordered curbside delivery for lunch. One sandwich and one piece of pie for each of us. The sandwich was absolutely great with all of the fixings and the meat was piled high. The pie was fantastic. Great service.

Lunch on a weekday. What we liked: 1. Awesome location near Lake Pepin and a touristy downtown. 2. Nice selection (not huge, just nice) of salads and sandwiches. 3. Gorgeous pies made of quality ingredients. 4. Eye appealing food presentation 5. Clean restroom What we didn’t like: 1. The counter person was unnecessarily curt. Maybe she was having a bad day. But rudeness to a customer is such a turnoff. 2. Vegetable beef barley soup was delicious but cold. 3. There was quite a lunch crowd, on a weekday yet, so the single toilet had a line that snaked down the dining room. Only other option was a pit toilet outside the restaurant. Thanks, but no thanks. Would we return? To dine, no. To grab a takeout pie, yes.

Its our busiest three weeks of the year right now, and crowds are almost double any timecwe have ever experienced for these weeks in the past, so bear wuth us and hope to see you again, thank you !!

We’ve been visiting here for years and have never been disappointed. My daughter and I stopped in on our way home from camping (drove an hour out of our way). We both appreciated the helpful service and delicious pie! Even the pies (apple caramel and pot pie) we brought home were gobbled up. They are taking appropriate and thoughtful steps to keep everyone safe which is terrific. The general store is adorable and I wish we had more time to shop there.

The pie is great no doubt about it don't forget to take a piece home or two! It's always been a quaint little stop along the way But now it's turned into a hurry up get your pie off the digital menu And don't throw the tin away! Assign for that would be helpful. But if its pire looking for this is the place to be. My personal favorites bumbleberry and double lemon.

You don’t need a review of the pies; as you have read, it’s one of the top pie places in the United States. Even if you don’t like pies, their other food is simple, but also imaginative. The hours are short at this establishment located in an authentically old Swedish settlement so arriving just after 1:00 p.m. was just about perfect. Sitting on one of the two small tables under the shade of the awnings and building was a great place for a dog and his people. On this sojourn from Minneapolis, Minnesota the scenery was phenomenal along the Mississippi River and the town of Stockholm a place with surprisingly lots to do. If you like trains, you can watch the crossing just a block to the west of the freight and Amtrak trains which go by every few minutes. The old Post Office is a museum and the “new” Post Office will hand cancel your post card. So you have an authentic general store located in an authentic Swedish community of 79 residents and a rooster who crows regularly. Inside the General Store and Pies you will find candy, gifts, food as well as local information. If you are coming from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota, we recommend you go here and then cross back over into Minnesota at Wabasha, Minnesota where the National Eagle Center is located. Makes for an easy day trip and the kids will love it.

We stopped in recently on a Sunday road trip to look at fall leaves along the Mississippi. We tried 4 different types of pie, and they were all out of this world. We had hot cider and coffee with our pie and they were both really great too. We will be sure to return to this cafe again soon to try some of their other menu items and some of the other pies. I highly recommend that you stop in too if you are in this area.
