This place is a little gem and offers some of the best food available in Cambridge. We had a lovely meal, again and would go back in a heartbeat. The only negative was to the evening was the fact that we went on the warmest day of the year so far and none of the windows in the restaurant were... More

We went for an early Sunday lunch and had a lovely experience. The highlight were the mains, lamb Barnsley chop and beef rib-eye that came with these amazing hand cut chips. The place looks great after the refurbishment.

We had a great meal at the crown and punchbowl, arriving early on a Saturday night, but the place was heaving when we left. We stuck mostly to the daily specials – crayfish salad starter with chili popcorn (worked brilliantly) and then roast cod loin with celeriac puree, some kind of shredded apple fritter and wilted spinach, again amazing and... Our second visit recently and a little disappointing this time. Two courses, including artisan bangers and mash plus 3 glasses of wine and a few bottles of home bottled waters, with service, came to over £100. It really wasn't worth it. Much better value down the road ( though less salubrious) at The Plough and Fleece. You pays your money... More

I would highly recommend. The service was very good. The food was delicious especially the gluten free sticky toffee pudding, it was amazing. Great that they have a gluten free menu so tha it accommodates everyone. Well worth a visit.

We regularly visit The Crown and Punchbowl. Food and service always good. Lovely to have separate gluten free menu as I'm a coeliac! Can be reassured that they understand special dietary requirements which is brilliant!

Called in for a lunchtime meal, found the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The meal was very nice with good flavours. A little above average prices but well worth it

The restaurant has consistently interesting menus, and the food is always well-prepared and tasty. Staff are friendly, and the service is attentive. The atmosphere is low-key and cosy with some interesting decor for talking points. The wines I've tried have been at the cheap end of the list but always good. Although on the pricy side, this is our favourite... More

I stayed in one of the pub rooms on NYE and arrived absolutely famished. Not wanting to go out and party on an empty stomach, I was so pleased that they were able to find us a table in an adjoining dining area. Perfect as it had a staircase up to the rooms so didn't have to go outside when... More

Description
*Please note on some old Sat Navs our postcode CB25 9JG directs you to Ely but we are just off Junction 34 of the A14 on the outskirts of Cambridge. The Crown & Punchbowl is a quaint country pub, restaurant and inn nestled amongst farmhouses in the village of Horningsea, just 3 miles from the centre of Cambridge. This Grade II listed building was originally an old coaching inn constructed in the 17th century. It has been extended periodically but retains many of its traditional features including brick fireplaces and original timber beams. The pub serves local real ales straight from the cask whilst the restaurant offers seasonal modern British food in relaxed surroundings. We are a passionate local business devoted to providing fresh, seasonal and where possible locally sourced food. Our style can be best described as Modern British & European with a regularly changing menu. Food is keenly prepared, presented and served by a knowledgeable team. Please see our blackboards for fresh fish. All fish is supplied by Marrfish from day boats and delivered fresh daily. These dishes change regularly and are from a sustainable source.
