Just looking for simple, easy, inexpensive meal we found Lates via Trip Advisor. Its a dive burger place, but okay, theyre often fantastic. Right? Not this one. Seeing an empty parking lot that late in the afternoon shoulda been enough to keep us driving...being the eternal optimist I am, I allowed benefit of the doubt to govern. My tragic mistake.... More

This tiny diner is so inconspicuious, it would be easy to drive by without seeing it...but LOOK!!! Without a doubt, the BEST broasted chicken I have ever tasted!!! and inexpensive!

I went here to try the burger, which was great. Also had the chicken, delicious onion rings and their slaw. They put chopped herbs in the slaw, which is not what you normally see in this kind of place. Didnt have room for dessert or ice cream but no doubt thats good. Afterwards you can see the sputnik crash site... More

Late's is an absolute classic. Like stepping back in time. The food is straight up Midwestern diner and prices are great, and if you happen to have silver dollars, you can pay in 1960's prices! Try any of their sandwiches and add their bacon. It is out of this world. The soups are amazing as well. The feel of this... More

Being from the Southwest, I'm always trying to get insight into my wife's upbringing in Minnesota. Terms like 'Pannekoeken' and 'cheese curds' were foreign to me until I married her. Anyway, this place took my wife back to her childhood with the food served up. Cheese curds were PERFECT as they squeaked when you ate them. German potato salad was... More

We went to Late's on recommendation from someone who grew up in Manitowoc in the 50s. It proved to be the quintessential greasy spoon. It was sooooo good! The cheese curds were delicious. After our $8.75 meal (two of us: two burgers, cheese curds, water), we indulged in a very reasonable malt for about $3.50. The prices are perfect, the... More

After eating at this establishment for fifty years, I regret to say it is not the same. The burger meat is smaller and the bun is bigger, resulting in an over-priced $2.50 dry tasting burger. I used to brag this was the best burger in the world - what happened. It has lost that special taste which I so enjoyed.... More

We stopped in by recommendation to have some cheeses curds. We walked in and gave you that feeling that you stepped back in time. Small diner, short round stools at the bar, and even the milkshakes came with the metal mixing cup along with a cold glass. Awesome food and experience!!

Lates is still in operation. We use to walk from Lincoln High School there for lunch 40+ years ago. Lots of great memories and still very good food. Walk down memory lane with all the photos they have on their walls. A must visit when you visit Manitowoc, Wi

Late's is a staple in this historic town. My hubby and I have been haunting the place since back in the day when we were dating - 40 years ago. It's walking distance from our old high school, so we skipped out of school many a day to satisfy our hankerings. Thank God nothing has changed. If it ain't broke... More
