On a friends recommendation, we stopped at Thornton River Grill for lunch as our halfway point on the Skyline Drive. The patio isn't open during the week, only on weekends so we sat inside -- too bad since it was a lovely day. The dining room is cozy and we had a great waitress who was very nice and engaging.... An excellent restaurant in an unexpected location. My lady & I and our service dog, Mrs Jones, spent a week in Shenandoah National park and ventured out for lunch one day. We discovered this gem of a place, attached to a general store. Excellent home made soups at lunch time. We liked it so much we went back for dinner... More

In the center of old small town of Sperryville in a nice old storefront space next to the small grocer and new pizza place. We enjoyed a nice lunch of tasty crabcakes with remoulade sauce, beef lentil soup, and a very reasonable wine list. Nice waitstaff. Casual and comfortable.

Six of us came for a late lunch on Good Friday and enjoyed a really great meal. I've been here at least twice before and my experience has always been consistently good. Their salads are excellent, the sandwiches are great, and the beer list is full of surprises. Couple that with the fact that the restaurant is connected to a... More

We stoped here after having hiking to the Old Rag Mountain, just before the end of the service at 3 pm. The Steak salad is excellent and the local white wine by the glass is very good.

My husband and I came in for dinner without reservations and we were happily seated right away. I got a variety of appetizers: fried goat cheese (delicious), scallops with orzo (unremarkable), kale salad with blue cheese (overly sweet dressing). My husband ordered the spicy shrimp entree which was quite flavorful. Shared the chocolate bread pudding which was a huge serving... More

The food=Very good. Let's start there because this isn't a completely negative review. As lunch spots go, this is actually a decent restaurant. However, a week ago, I contacted the place and spoke with their manager telling them I'd have between 10-15 people coming in on a Saturday at 12:30. The manager agreed and said he'd have the place ready.... More

I took my mom for a Saturday adventure and headed to Sperryville. I have a friend that posted a picture of an amazing looking smoked salmon Benedict from a Sunday brunch. We made it there for lunch and both chose the flaming rooster sandwich. It was hearty and stacked with bacon, pepper jack cheese, rooster sauce (chipotle style mayo), lettuce... More

Spring time weather in February and the place was packed out. Had a few parties ahead of us for the wait, but within 15 minutes we were seated at the front next to a window overlooking Main St. Neat old place with a warm atmosphere with nice wood grain in the tables. Old B & W photos on the wall... More

Description
Serving great American food with a worldly flair, we’re open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 3pm for lunch and 5pm to 9pm for dinner. We also serve a lovely brunch on Sunday from 10am to 3pm and dinner from 5pm to 8pm. The atmosphere is at the same time elegant and casual. The richness and warmth of the hand-planed wood-paneled walls provides a comfortable dining experience that can be enjoyed equally in dressy-casual attire or hiking shorts. We are located in the heart of historic Sperryville, Virginia, 75 miles west of Washington D.C., at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We look forward to serving you soon!
