A deliciously vibrant restaurant with both great food and fun loving staff. Start with a simple Cuban pressed hot to crunchy perfection along with a nice bottle of beer or Cuban coffee and you'll find yourself wanting more. Very clean restaurant. Fast friendly service.

Call ahead if you plan to carryout. I went on my lunch break and It took 19 minutes from ordering to get my sandwich and I was the only costumer. The sandwich was big, and very delicious. The chicken was freshly cooked and a generous portion. The vegetable were fresh and the customer  service was good. The woman apologized for... More

Although Fidel Castro has only been absent from the world scene a brief amount of time and travel between Cuba and the United States has only recently loosened up (the January 27 action by the current U.S. President notwithstanding), authentic Cuban Cuisine is and has been available in the Roanoke Valley of Southwestern Virginia for 10 years in the unassuming... We have eaten a lot of Cuban food, as my wife is from Cuba. To say that this place was disappointing, is an understatement. We had the Ropa Vieja and it tasted like it was 'phoned in'. The spices tasted more Mexican than Cuban, and it tasted lot a lot of the food was 'canned'. The only really good thing... More

I first tried Cuban Island as a quick lunch while working in the city as a police officer. I normally have reservations going ANYWHERE in uniform for food, but my issue was quickly put at rest by the owners. The interior is clean, food is incredible and I can not say enough about the owner and his wife. The wife,... More

Let me start by saying that I am no expert in Cuban food, but I have travelled to S. Florida a number of times and always seek out Cuban food while there. I have never had a Cuban sandwich without roasted pork. WTH? Meat portion for what was there was small, basically a ham a cheese pressed with too much... More

Love this place! The Ropa Vieja is amazing! We used to live in Los Angeles and had a few great Cuban restaurants that we loved. This definitely rates up there with them...we will be back!

Husband and I went for dinner and we were amazed at how wonderful this place is! We were warmly welcomed by the owner, quickly seated and served our drinks. We ordered the empanada and stuffed potato app's and loved both of them. The cilantro sauce rocked and the red hot sauce was volcanic (not my thing but hubby loved). Then... More
