The burritos we had were fire 🔥 & the margaritas tasted great!! We were visiting the area and definitely recommend this place!

When we walked in the space seemed nice enough & we got big margaritas for $3.50 or so each. I guess happy hour was over soon after we ordered, because the music cranked to the top of the meter. We got a few appetizers. Guacamole...& chips, added $1.50 for spicy salsa; and house made poppers. Guac needed salt, salsa wasn't spicy, and it was small. Popper peppers weren't done, but they were wrapped in crispy bacon. But great bacon can't cover every sin. Conclusion: drinks: great. apps: not so muchMore

After much rave from colleagues, undecided to try this place out. Definitely a different dive. I ordered the 619 fish tacos and two tacos, once carnitas, one carne asada...more on this further down... The place is nicely nestled on High street amidst the splendor of...the buzz on the street, in a very laxed setting. The waitress, when she wasn't snaking, was very friendly and eager to explain the fun, interactive menu (grease pencil mark what you want-pretty fun and easy to follow menu-a definite A+ for uniqueness). The bartender, seemed pretty chill, engaging with customers (the ones that seemed to be locals). I took issue with his tending the bar, then lifting the runner floor grates (not sure why) and going back to tending the bar-I sure hope he washed his hands at some point. Back to the food- I ordered the fish tacos as is, nd opted for soft corn tortillas (flour and hard shell corn were the other two option). I also asked for a side of their remulade sauce. The order came with black beans and Spanish rice. As for the two tacos, I asked for one carnitas, and one carne asada; each with guacamole, onions, salsa verde, and cilantro...all of which the waitress acknowledged and gave me a hearty "be right up"... After about 5 minutes I asked for water, got it...and a few minutes after that, a family strolled in (seemed to know the waiter); the family of 2-3 children made their way to the bar (yes, the bar), and proceeded order food. Then, a few minutes later, the witness came by and said it would be about 10-15 more minutes. After about that much time, the food came out...FOR THE FAMILY AT THE BAR! My food came out a few minutes later (mind u a to go order); I got it and left. A 5 min drive to the base and I was ready to chow-afterall, I was looking fwd to the nostalgic feeling of SD Mexican food! Fish tacos were "meh"...flavors were great, only I could have gone without the fish...it was like the taco filling was the flavor and the fish was added post boiling (not saying it was boiled but, just saying). Two tacos had no cilantro, conservatively splashed with guacamole, and drowned in green salsa. To top it off, the meat was not cold, but to say t was like warm would be too generous...in contrast, the beans and rice were piping hot...wonder what happened to my food...maybe took a back seat to "fiends at the bar"? To top it off, the meat was quite bland as well... Overall, the theme works, the quality of good is a far cry from SD "619" caliber...perhaps to the unsuspecting and inexperienced palette it will pass as authentic or "619" esque...to this So Cali raised seasoned Mexican food enthusiast, not even close. I may give 619 another shot... When I feel the need to pig out and sin with some hefty calories, it's either mexican or Italian for me...this go round was a bad investment...not even worth the cardio it will require to be burned off. Blah.More

This storefront location is a decent place to grab a cold one and some food. Our waitress was very friendly during our lunch. Endless basket of tortilla chips, salsa and southwest ranch dip! I had the San Diego Fish Tacos with grilled Mahi, cabbage, pico...de gallo and a spicy yogurt dill sauce. It tasted excellent - wish there was a bit more fish and sauce! The sides were good - spanish rice and black beans, but were relatively small - about three spoonfuls each. You order by writing on your menu with a grease pencil indicating what you want. Good taste, decent value. On-street parking was easy to find.More

I finally went here to get a burrito and I am glad I did! While the margaritas were a bit light on the tequila, they did have interesting flavors. The burritos (we had three different kinds) were all very good. Spectacular? Maybe not, but certainly...worth what we paid. Interesting that they put french fries on your burrito . . . The establishment would do well to have a "shooer" to prevent the street beggars from harassing the folks sitting in the outside dining area.More

I went here with my girlfriend and it was my first time in downtown Portsmouth. It was a nice and quaint part of town with a lot of restaurants and bars. The restaurant was conveniently located on the main strip and has some seating and...a bar area. We started with the Poppin Peppers which I felt were okay and the jalapeno seemed really raw and was a bit underwhelming. The menu offers a lot of customization with the ingredients you add to the various dishes which is pretty cool. I ordered the burrito and the portion size was humongous. I eat a lot but I could barely finish half of it. My girlfriend ordered the fish tacos which which she said were pretty good. I thought my burrito was lacking some flavor. I couldn't tell if it needed more seasoning or salt but it was a bit bland to me. There are a fair amount of beers and other mixed drinks to choose from. I think if you are in the area and are in the mood for some Mexican food and drinks this place may be okay as an option on a tight budget.More

We ate there a couple of times when we wanted quick Mexican for a good price. Usually busy and I've never had anything bad there.

The restaurant is a tiny little place, but the food is all San Diego! The menu is interactive with a grease pencil and you the diner, picks what goes into your burrito or taco. Of course, if you don't know what you want, they have...the "Bad Idea" which will satisfy the biggest eaters. There is the cheese crisp which is a small pizza and the fish tacos for you non-meat eaters to mention just a few of the entree's. The 619 has local brews on tap along with hand made margaritas and mimosas. Fresh salsa, guacamole, and pico de gallo round out the extras. Oh, did I mention the french fries?! I'll leave those for your gastromic adventure. To finish everything off, if you've ever been to San Diego, you know Churros reign supreme and the 619 does them right!!! The churros alone will bring me back every time! Don't wear your nicest clothes, you will go out smelling like a burrito, but its a small price to pay for excellent fresh food!More

I ate here several times while visiting Portsmouth; got the carnitas and chicken on tacos and they were both delicious. The beef tacos were just ok compared to the others. The fresh chips were delicious too. The food was quick, delicious, and I appreciated how...FRESH everything was. Highly recommended!More
