Lovely welcome, really lovely staff looking after us. The fixe prix menu was great value and the kids menu is excellent choice and value, my grandson had make your own pizza which was great he even got a littke chefs hat which went down well. All in all a positive experience except for the fact it was really really noisy, not just the loud shouty talking from some tables, but because it was so busy, i guess this is the price you have to pay for such a great place. Food was really tasty and we shall most definitely return for another family evening, lunch or afternoon tea (or all three options!!)

We arrived in time for our 2.30pm booking and after waiting a few minutes in the bar we were then taken to our table. There were 4 of us and we booked the afternoon tea. Three of us had a pot of tea each and one had a cappuccino. The afternoon tea was brought out on 2 tiered trays and it looked lovely. The sandwiches were chicken rocket & mayonnaise and also prawn sandwiches on the same type of malt bread which crumbled apart. It would have been nice to offer something on white or may be a brioche bun as well as the malt type bread that we had. In addition to the sandwiches we also had ham hock with a gherkin and goats cheese with caramelised onion on a white triangular shaped bread. For the sweet, we had creme brulee served in espresso cups, a cherry frangipan and a slice of Date cake. Fruit scones were also served with clotted cream and jam. Due to dietry requirements Ego provided 2 plain scones instead of fruit scones which was appreciated. We had no complaints about the service and we all thought that £9.95 was very good value. Ego also offered a Prosecco afternoon tea too, but we opted for the cocktail 2 for 1 offer in addition to our afternoon tea. Only suggestion to perhaps consider is providing the sandwiches on different types of bread instead of the one type, but everything was great, thank you and most importantly the Birthday girl was happy too 🙂

We booked the afternoon tea but being the first day of Eat Out To Help Out times were limited but we were given a time near to when we wanted to visit. The place looked very clean and seemed to have the Covid protocols well established. The tea was a bargain at only £9.95 pp and we got it half that price it being a Monday. Definitely worth the full price and as good as any £20 plus tea in a hotel. All the cakes were light and delicious. They must have an excellent pastry chef. The mini creme brûlée was to die for. Our waitress Phoebe was professional and friendly. Would definitely go again if in the area.

I had booked a table for a special occasion (baby shower/lunch) for 6 of our friends. Upon arrival (1.00pm) we had been seated and had to then prompt the waiter for our drinks order as we had been sat there for a good 20 minutes with nothing to drink. Bearing in mind we had 2 heavily pregnant women in the group, this was less than acceptable. Next we ordered our starters and mains. The unhelpful waiter didn’t know what the soup of the day was, which was very unprofessional so he had to go and check. The starters then arrived about 30 mins later (it was now 2pm!) The bread that came with the soup had bits of mould on it and the soup wasn’t overly warm. Next, the mains finally arrived after chasing the manager twice (we weren’t eating mains until 2.45pm so an hour and a half later!!) In all honesty, the food was nice and we all shovelled it down in less than 10 mins given we were all ravenous! To add to our poor service, we were seated in the enclosed patio which was boiling hot because the sun was shining through. I had requested for the roof to be opened slightly to let in a breeze and some fresh air, which was done for about 5 mins and then closed again with no explanation. So basically we were all sweating like pigs whilst eating our food, with no offer or moving table. To top off this laughable, unprofessional service, when I asked for the bill, I complained about the long wait and the mouldy bread and also my chips which didn’t arrive until I’d basically eaten my main meal (reasonable complaints). The manager, Beth, never returned with the bill so the group proceeded to go up to the main desk. When I was presented with the bill, I could see that only the soup had been knocked off the total amount (a mere £3.45) which I thought was shocking given our experience. I then asked to see the manager, Beth, as I explained I was unhappy paying for a meal which was less than average and with an appalling service. Beth never reappeared and seemed to do all her liaising through the poor lad on the bar who hadn’t really got a clue. In the end, we finally managed to get 25% knocked off the bill which we could cope with. I was shocked and frustrated that such a well respected restaurant in the area could provide such a disappointing experience for a special occasion. Let’s say.... we will NOT be returning!

Was part of a birthday party for Sunday lunch The food took over three and a half hours to be served. When it arrived it was either tough and flat cold, burnt to a crisp or served raw (which had to be returned to the kitchen) We gave up on desert and was told by the waitress they would knock this off the bill. Having paid the bill and left shortly after we were greeted by an aggressive telephone call by the manageress who accused us of walking out without paying! We gave her the receipt number and was eventually told that she wanted additional monies because they had not us charged for desert! This was regardless of the poor service, quality of food and what the waitress had advised we still needed to pay! We wouldn't usually write a poor review but how the manageress handled the matter was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. It was a joke from start to finish which is a shame as the place itself is lovely. Definitely would not recommend until a change of management!

Got there for around 7:45pm, there was a few options on the menu that were already run out. The time between our starter and main was an hour and 20 minutes. When the main came it was stone cold, they then had to change the menu as they didn’t have enough of what we had ordered left. We didn’t bother with a dessert as we was there for 2 hours before we had a main meal we wasn’t hungry anymore. Basically paid £100 for a couple of G&T’s. Won’t be going again. Manager knocked £40. Bill supposed to be £135. Paid £95. Extortionate. Waitress was lovely but too much work for minimal staff.

My partner and I booked for Weds 26th August to take advantage of the governments scheme, and also to give Ego a second chance as we'd had a bad experience over Christmas. Prior to that, we'd always found Ego to great! Our table was booked at 7pm, but wasn't quite ready so had to sit in the bar area and order drinks. We went to the table at 7.15, and still hadn't been given drinks...they arrived at 7.25. The meal started off quite promising with lovely starters; I had chorizo, and my partner opted for a garlic bread with tomato (she wanted mozarella also but we were informed they didn't have any) My main course however, was extremely disappointing. I'd ordered "Rump of lamb served pink" priced at £19. When it arrived, it looked very underwhelming and resembled a school dinner. It had just 3 small pieces of lamb. I've had more lamb in a £5 curry. It was tough, and overcooked way passed the "pink" as described on the menu. The accompanying dauphinoise tasted bland with not enough seasoning and no real garlic hint. My partners ribeye steak, £24 with with peppercorn sauce added, was again underwhelming. The sauce was thin, watery and with a slight sour tasted. No vine tomatoes, just half of an ordinary one with one solitary piece of mushroom and the whole thing tasted quite salty. No one came to check on the food once we'd been given it. We weren't even asked at the end of the main courses how everything was, just "have you finished?" I'd left a piece (one of my total of 3!) lamb and did say to the waitress I was disappointed and my reasons why. She said "shall I tell the kitchen?" to which I replied "yes please, of course!"....she never came back! We waited another ten minutes and weren't asked if we wanted desserts or more drinks, nor did we get a response about my feedback about the meal. We had to go to the counter by the door and promptly paid and left. It's worth noting that again, we weren't asked how things were. It's worth noting that on reading other reviews this morning, Ego seem to respond with "Please mention something at the time" - however we did, and the waitress just disappeared. Ego are vastly overpriced for what you actually get and do not appear to value customers experience there. if it wasn't for the government scheme to reduce our bill, we'd have come away feeling even more disappointed and cheated - they've totally overpriced themselves and the food and service do not come close to matching their price point. It's such a shame they are going downhill - it used to be lovely.

We've been regular visitors to Ego since it opened - usually a couple of times a month. The last visit was a disappointment though. We were booked into a 90 minute slot. Starters were enjoyed by all four of us and came fairly quickly. it was over an hour later when we got the main course (and outside of our 90 minutes). The pizza was fine (if you can't manage pizza its time to pack up), the chicken milanese was "ok". too dry. The halloumi kebab was described by my daughter (the halloumi addict) as the worst halloumi she has ever had. It crumbled in your fingers. She ate just two pieces before giving up. The "pink" lamb rump was not pink. nowhere near. It was nearly cold. Appreciate lamb is an expensive meat but it was a very small piece - in fact the dish overall was very small. The pea puree was cold. The dauphinoise potato by contrast was red hot making an interesting contrast when putting the elements together to eat.I didn't like the potato much but that was always a calculated risk on my part so can't complain. Then there was the timing. it took over 20 minutes to get the bill at the end and overall we were in the restaurant for two and a half hours for two courses which is not acceptable. Not when Ego set the 90 minute limit Staff were polite. As I say, regular visitors and it is not usually like this, but if it happens again we won't be back. Really poor main course food. I wasn't going to say anything given the discounts but i am struggling to convince the kids to visit again.

I visited with my partner and little boy on a Friday early tea time. Firstly there was quite a delay in my little boy getting his meal which we’d asked to be brought out with the starters. We were told the delay was down to a new chef, but when the food did arrive the chicken goujons were so overcooked and rubbery that my little boy didn’t want to eat them. I also noticed that the portion size was half that of when we’d visited at teatime a couple of weeks earlier. My partner and I had ordered sirloin steak but the chef got our order wrong and sent rump which we sent back. We waited for our correct order but then I found that my steak had been cooked medium well rather than the rare I’d asked for, so the steak went back again. I don’t know if this was also down to the new chef. The staff were very polite and apologised, but due to the delay we were at the restaurant two hours in the end, for what should half been a quick, stress-free tea. I might have also expected a concession because of the inconvenience we’d experience, but nothing was offered. Really not great this time around Ego.

I’m actually really dissaponted to write this review. Eat here regular. Have booked Mondays throughout August as the deal is cracking if only the food and service matched it. The recent visit we left so disappointed that the reality is that we will not visit again. Asked for steak to be cooked rare (still mooing) to be greeted with a well done defiantly dead steak rigamortis had set in. Tenderstem broccoli was in fact broccoli florets almost raw. The dauphginoise was dire glorified mash with lots of melted cheese on top?? The bottle of white wine warm which would have been ok had it been red. Waited twenty minutes before a waitress came to the table. The sad part to all this is that everyone I have spoken to have all said the food is dreadful but the cocktails are amazing?? Well the problem is with it being a restaurant the food quality need to justify the very high prices and when that is lacking sadly it will affect the entire place. Used to be fantastic sadly not anymore gone right downhill

Yesterday afternoon we visited the Ego with good expectations, how disappointed we were. The food was exceptionally poor for the price and the drinks were rather pricey too. We don’t mind paying the price if we are served with quality, on this occasion we certainly didn’t get quality. 2 out of the party ordered sirloin steak and the other 2 ordered rib eye steak. The accompaniments to all the steaks were very slim pickings and we all thought on arrival to the table “really” Mine was served with half of a very small tomato, one very small mushroom, skinny fries and a bit of rocket. The steak was one of the worst cooked steaks I have eaten. It was extremely over cooked and very grisly. The rib eye steak was also not up to our standard and to be fair it didn’t even look like rib eye steak. The quality of meat was not what a restaurant charging the prices they are should be serving to their customers. Not that I frequent often but on the occasions I have I have eaten better cooked food and cheaper at the chain of pubs with the initial W...... I don’t normally eat a pudding however as the main course was so poor and I was still hungry I ordered a pudding. The pudding was served with custard, the custard arrived in a an egg cup size pot. We all laughed when we saw the amount of custard, there was literally a tablespoon full. It was so ridiculous I had to ask for more custard and to be fair they brought out a full pot. It begs the question “Why wasn’t a full pot served in the first instance”. My husband didn’t order pudding, he ordered a lite bite as he was still hungry. I might add at this point we are not large people with big appetites and ordinarily a main course with no pudding is sufficient. How often does anyone go out for a steak meal and have to order a lite bite meal also to ensure you leave the restaurant feeling satisfied. I am very sorry Ego your standard of food is substandard and requires a lot of improvement. You really need to revisit your menu and look at what is being served. Ask yourself the question, would you be happy with what you are serving to your customers if you yourself was paying for that plate of food. I am sad to say we will not be returning anytime soon. Our total bill cost was £160 less the help to eat out discount. We all left your establishment feeling that we had been robbed. There was no way the meal was worth anywhere near the price paid.

Ordered a Gambas Al Pil Pil starter that consisted of undercooked prawns floating around in water, with a side of burnt toast. I had the Sea Bass Fillets main. the fish was over cooked with absolutely no flavour. (Not even seasoned with salt or pepper) awful. Partner had the Hanging Mixed Kebab, that was burnt and the meat was like leather. Both orders came with skin on fry’s that were undercooked. Basically raw potato. Both left more than half a plate of food. Cost us £70 including drinks and we both left hungry and ended up going elsewhere to eat. Absolutely awful food. Never again.

Great meal again. Varied menu on the al a carte but still about 4 ,starters, mains and desserts to choose from on the fixed price menu. I am a member so I get emails with offers and is 50% pff Wednesday and Thursday throughout October. Not saying that it is worth the full price but it worked out about £20 a person for a three course, plus drinks. As usual the gambit king prawns were delicious. I had for my main the pan fried cod with tarragon creamy sauce. And the sticky toffee pudding was scrumptious. Be aware that if you choose the Apple and blackberry crumble,it is large and very filling. Good idea to share that dessert. It is very well organised during Covid. The staff as usual are very friendly and provide a good service. The Beverly arms is a big place so plenty of room to move without feeling you are encroaching on other pep,es space during these hard times.

Just visited Ego for half price steak night which I booked 5 days ago. When I booked I was told that it was only steak on the menu which was fine but I queried if my 2 children under 5 would be able to choose from the childrens menu. I was asked to hold the line while the girl went to find out,she came back to the phone and told me this wasnt a problem and my children would be fine to have the childrens menu. When we arrived today we were shown to our table and straight away told that we only have the table for one hour. I thought that this was a little rude to say before we had even sat down. I wasnt told this over the phone. I then ordered my family of five meals 3 steaks and 2 children menus please. I was then advised that we couldn't order from the childrens menu. I explained my telephone conversation twice to the waitress but the Ego were not going to budge and I was left to order my 3 and 4 year old a steak. The food was fine but I just thought the organisation and customer service of the half price steak night could have been better. It spoiled our family treat really.

We visited on the 21st August having been here several times before lockdown . Our slot for the meal was 19.00 until 20.30. Having been seated at 19.00 we placed our order for an appetizer, starter and main course and waited and waited and waited. Our appetizers and starter arrived together at 19.50 so having waited 50 minutes we then had to eat pitta bread with dips and garlic mushroom as the same time not something I would have chosen to eat together. The plates where removed eventually and we had to flag down a bartender to order drinks as no one appeared to be looking after the area we where sat in. We waited and waited and waited and eventually I had to interrupt the waitress who was having a nice long chat with people she knew at another table to ask if our meal would be coming soon. She apologized and explained how they had basically booked 3 events in and also fully booked the restaurant so where running behind. This was the first time all evening that anyone had visited our table or explained the situation. Our main meal came at 20.55 the food was nice and as we had to get home for the children we asked for the bill as soon as we had finished eating. The waitress asked if cash or card and my partner paid in cash. As the waitress took the money she said “do you want your change? “ my partner said yes please. When she had gone to get change my partner said that he couldn’t believe she had asked that and the change she wanted to keep for a tip was just under £9.00 for the quite frankly shoddy service. We do dine out quite a lot and have never been asked if we want our change in this manner it is down to us to say if we wanted to leave a tip and with good service we always do leave one. The poor service, attitude and the dirty look from the waitress as she gave us our change made the decision very easy to not leave a tip at all.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review, Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear of your disappointment when visiting us, It was a busy evening but there shouldn't have been such a long delay without any communication. Regarding the tips, the waitress should never have asked you if you were leaving your change I do apologize about this. I have spoken to the management and they will address this with the team to ensure this doesn't happen again. Hope you can give us another chance so we can show you how good we can be.
