Called in for an early Sunday lunch having visited with friends a number of times for lunch on a Saturday Good service from the moment we entered, table ready and nice greeting is all we need, then to the menu... As many have said already the Sunday lunch is, in our opinion, a bargain. A total of 5 meats to choose from (lamb was available for an extra £1), your choice of 2 from the standard four of Beef, Turkey, Pork or Ham Great Yorkshire puddings and vegetables, again, these where adjusted to our preference from those available to ensure we had a great choice We then had two great desserts (the Jam roll and Bread and Butter pudding) All lovely with half a beer and 3 half’s of come all for under £40. Highly recommended, give it a try

The interior looked bright and clean. We visited at 12:00, but was advised, when ordering, that the food would be 1/2 hour. That was ok for us, as we were in no rush. This would not be so if you were calling in and time was tight. The food arrived nice and hot, but my food was served on a cold stainless steel platter, and it quickly went cold. Having said that, it was quite nice, although the baked beans portion was very small, served on what I would describe as a porcelain coaster. Worth a visit, if you have time to wait for the food to be served.

Lovely welcome for us and our small jack Russell. Lots of drinks to choose from my son fancied trying white rat ale and they gave him a small glass to try free of charge. There was a nice range of food on the menu. There were 3 of us 2 had the haddock and chips with peas and my son hand one of the specials a minted lamb burger. All 3 meals were very well cooked and nicely served. Fabulous fish. So large I couldn’t eat it all we were given a doggy bag to take home. Our dog got lot# of fuss, a treat and a bowl of water. My only negative would be the meal took a long t8me to arrive

Good Afternoon Thank you for taking the time to write your kind review, we really do appreciate your comments. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your meal and your whole experience with us, here at The Angel. We are very sorry that you felt that your meal took a long time to arrive but everything is freshly prepared and cooked from fresh by our chefs. Nice range of choice on the menu. We both had scampi and my mum had a small portion. Small portions are available on most dishes which is helpful if you have elderly or just fancy a lite bite. Side salad chips and peas and a portion of Tatar sauce. Reasonably priced and served in a timely manor. Worth booking though as it was busy and was told we could have a table but would have to wait 20 minutes for menus and orders! We waited as I'd already read the reviews on here. The food was really good and nice atmosphere. Toilets were clean but hand dryer could have been better. Friendly staff so we will return.

We have visited here a few times before lockdown for food and drinks. The staff are brilliant and super friendly and the food is absolutely beautiful! A person of ours has dietary requirements and the staff were very helpful and could adapt any dish to their needs. Very cosy inside and a wonderful atmosphere! We’ve just recently had a Sunday takeaway, and social distancing was in place with markers where to go outside, surfaces what were touched were wiped down between us and prior customers, and money was passed through a tray so no contact with one another. The food again was totally delicious, and we’ve recommended to all our friends! Just make sure you book! Well done everyone at the angel! We cannot wait til you can open properly!

Having dined at The Angel many times before the lockdown, we were delighted that from today, they offered a Take Away Sunday Lunch. We placed our order earlier in the week, as there was a choice of 3 meats and a vegetarian option. We requested a collection time which was agreed and today went to collect our food. All safety precautions and social distancing were adhered to as we collected our order. The food was very well presented on disposable plates, the gravy and cheese sauce were in plastic containers. The food was delicious! The servings were plentiful and the Yorkshire pudding as light as ever. We’ve already booked again for next week .. thank you to all the staff at The Angel x

Superb as always. Everything beautifully cooked, all four meals including garlic bread were piping hot when we got home. Only disappointment being we weren't in the pub! But we loved the experience of having our favourite meal at home, nonetheless. Thank you, Julie and Co, for another amazing meal.

It has been some weeks since I have had an Angel Sunday dinner. And the great thing is it tastes even better, as if that was ever possible. We eat and the Angel regularly and the Sunday dinners are to die for. But being able to have that in your own home with zero effort and zero washing up is heaven. I didn't even mind pouring my own beer. Even the kids, that don't normally eat a Sunday dinner, tucked in and left very little for the dog, (personally I left none...he's a dog and can eat dog food). We have booked again for next week and will do so until we can finally return properly.

The Angel has taken steps to find a lockdown workaround today with the first takeaway Sunday lunch in several weeks. Nothing really replaces the experience of a sit down meal, desserts, drinks and atmosphere. Still, it was great to get a flavour of pre - virus Sunday lunch. Pre ordered for a specific time slot, £9 for a regular, £6 for small. Meals plated up and whisked away gratefully!

We attended the Angel for a few drinks in June and found the bar staff to be brilliant and attentive, the beer was nice and for the first hour or so everything was great. Myself and my brother were sitting outside on the benches talking when one of the usuals started having a conversation with another couple across everyone else outside about how he'd "Turned into a right fat c**t during lockdown" because of all the Chinese food. He then decided to start wondering around from table to table trying to talk to anyone who would entertain him, most people could either see he was drunk or they were regulars and just rolled their eyes. He eventually came over and we ignored him so just wondered off. An hour passed and some younger lads came and sat at the table next to us and we got talking to them about football, generally having a laugh and chat with them when all of a sudden the drunk regular came over and decided that rather than having a conversation with the 5 lads we "Wouldn't leave them alone" and we're told to leave them "Or else". Now my brother and I had already ignored this lad and this time we asked him to go and sit down to which he didn't like and proceeded to threaten my brother. Things then got a bit heated as my brother stands his ground when confronted and the drunken regular called his friends over. It was at this point the landlord came over and we explained the situation, only to be told "Don't worry, I'll have a word with him" and WE were then asked to leave as to not cause any more trouble! I argued the fact that we shouldn't be the ones to leave because we were simply at first trying to diffuse the situation and eventually just telling the drunk regular to leave us alone, this feel on deaf ears and we eventually went down the road to the Boot And Shoe. After we'd had a few more pints we walked past the Angel only to see our drunken friend staggering all over shouting at anyone in ear range, seems this lad can do whatever he wants. It's a shame because we moved to Ackworth living quite close to the angel and would have loved to spend time here but it seems you have blanket immunity as long as you spend half your life there annoying anyone in earshot who are minding their own business, from reading the other lower star reviews it looks like I'm not the only one who's had a problem with the ones propping the bar up. Oh well, we had a nice welcome at the Boot and Shoe so at least we've found somewhere decent.

Visited Friday lunchtime with my wife, our daughter and her new husband and our grandson to celebrate our daughter's wedding (Wednesday) after reading previous reviews and we were delighted we had. The service was great, the food was excellent, beautifully cooked and presented and very reasonably priced. I personally can recommend the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection, exactly as I had requested it. Our grandson also had the steak, my wife had a smaller (Seniors) roast, our daughter had chicken and our new son in law the steak & ale pie. Everyuthing was delicious and well presented. We also had desserts and drinks. This was our first visit to the Angel for food but it will definitely not be our last. Superb!!

The owner/chef was blunt, rude and made everyone i was with including myself uncomfortable. will definitely not be returning again. and i feel bad for her staff as they are all fully aware of how nasty there manager is, after a small conversation with one of the waitresses she said that this woman is like this all the time - they also decide when to serve/not serve food when they like

As medical professionals we had a welcoming stay at Oulton Hall in Rothwell however as we went into the Angel pub in Ackworth we were astonished. As soon as we walked in the waitress at the bar looked at us as if she had seen a ghost, this was due to our skin colour being ethnic. We inquired about the soup of the day and she said she would have to ask the kitchen staff if they could fit us in despite it being Tuesday 7th of December when the pub was half empty at lunchtime. As expected she returned and said that they could not fit us in. From her body language she was not welcoming towards us at all. In this day and age we were shocked that this should happen.

Mum and dad. Myself and partner. 3 sunday lunches and 1 fish and chips. After months of being really disappointed at the carvery chains this place is a real find. Good service. Great staff. Quality food and value for money. My parents ordered the Sunday lunch but they were told the small carvery at £8.95 would probably be plenty for them. There were very happy with it. Plenty of meat, veg and perfect yorkshire puddings. Highly recommend The Angel.
