I'd been told about this place from a friend so decided to give it a go and definitely wasn't disappointed. I took my mum for lunch yesterday, I had steak from the specials board, which was cooked perfectly, and my mother had the chicken pie which again was lovely (she couldn't finish it so I made sure nothing went to... Cromwells is a favourite for me and my friends. The service is fantastic, the staff are so friendly you get a real family feel and the food is TO DIE FOR. Real hearty, classic meals offered with generous portions for a very good price. The locals around Pontefract love the cafe, make sure you check out the afternoon tea! See... More

Such a shame to post such a negative review! This place should carry a health warning and maybe even have bouncers on the door to protect customers from the staff!! Dare to complain and feel the wrath of the staff and the manager. For almost 30 Years we have special memories of this popular cafe. However following a family get... More

Thank you both for your feedback, however unfortunately none of the above is true representation of what took place. I have become aware of your personal vendetta against a waitress in which you both name but none of the staff wear name badges so this is an example of you having other issues with the said member of staff. May... More

Friendly staff who take good care of the customers. As I was trying to control weight had a light lunch of Smoked Mackerel and Salad washed down with a good pot of tea complete with a jug of hot water to top it up. Followed this with an enjoyable dessert with chocolate sauce and ice cream. Staff were attentive but... More

My friend treated me to morning coffee today at Cromwell's.Large selection of teas and coffees we had an Earl Grey and a Latte.Lovely menu with so much choice. As it was early I had a breakfast baguette with bacon egg and smoked cheese. It was delicious and extremely good value for money.I prefer eating upstairs as downstairs can be noisy with the... I have never visited this place and before and it is tucked away down a little alley, but well worth the search. The place is warm, cosy and the waiting staff were so friendly. The menu was interesting and it also served wine! what more could you ask for. Plan to take my parents, and guarantee that i shall be back.

On a busy Saturday lunch on a whim and needing cheering up we took a slight detour off the main street to this little cafe, and were very pleasantly surprised. A lovely welcome from friendly, smiling staff brightened our spirits immediately. The atmosphere, though busy, was of a friendly local where everyone smiled, staff and customers alike. The menu offered... More

Visited here for a coffee with a friend. The coffee was nice and the cake I had was reasonable, although nothing special (I'm not sure it was homemade, although I could be mistaken). Traditional little place in a traditional building with good service and reasonable prices.

Very nice food, lots of culture and overall a very nice visit. The cakes are especially nice and they have a varied menu. My only slight complaint is that the lighting could be upped a bit, it is quiet dark in there, but overall a nice experience.
