Ordered takeout and the food was DELICIOUS!! I have tried and HIGHLY recommend the following: Chicken Tikka Tandoor, Malai Kofta, Garlic Naan, Vegetable Samosas, Mixed Vegetable Pakora, and Mango Lassi. All of these were sooo good that they are making my mouth water just writing...about them. You will be really happy about getting Indian from here!!More
Very disappointing customer service and rude reception made me walk out of this restaurant. Excited as a visitor to the city, I offered to take my American friend for lunch at this restaurant. The restaurant website and google search clearly states that it is open...until 2:30 PM. We arrived at the restaurant at 2:07 PM; 23 minutes before the afternoon close. The buffet was clearly laid out there but the staff refused to serve us and stated that we could only take-out (mind you twenty three minutes before closing time). The arrogance of the staff was atypical. I definitely will avoid this restaurant during my visits and urge you to be careful.More
We usually go to Saffron every time we visit Norfolk because we love Indian food. This time we were very disappointed. The service was excruitatingly slow. There was only one waiter for the front and several tables were full. The food was good as always....However we ordered a mild dish for my son. The server promised it would be mild. It came out and it was not mild. They replaced the dish. We had to wait a long time for the server to come so we could ask for boxes and the check. He brought us the wrong check the first time. It was for less, but we took it back to him and asked for the right check. The service was definitely the most disappointing part of the visit. Very unfortunate. The rating is given based on the mistake in the order and the very slow service.More
Lack of personal warmth in the restaurant as well as the food Both soups were cold, checked the on off switch, it was in off position and the waiter was indifferent to turn it on Nan although was optimally made but were tepid Vegetables Pakoras...tested fine but were cold and not crisp Eaiter said he can not do anything and will tell the cook, no change till we paid and left Could go on but you get the drift Will not recommend the restaurantMore
It’s in Downtown Norfolk near entertainment hubs. It’s nice to have an elegant quiet location for Indian food in its location. There is public parking a block away. The Tide public light rail comes very close. Our family group of five had a majority of...vegetarians ordering and all were happy with their meal except my wife who felt her level 1 order was too hot. Mine was fine but I prefer a bit hotter and I ordered level 2 heat and it underperformed so maybe there was a mixup between my order and my wife’s but still everyone had a tasty dish. It was a great relief that although the restaurant was nearly full, all could hear the conversations during dinner. Decor was elegant as were the dishes and utensils. Simple but nice with table linen. Service was attentive but unobtrusive but the food did not come out all together. Mine was perhaps 10 minutes later than others. I had a Northern Indian chicken curry with plenty of pieces/chunks of breast-meat chicken. There was plenty of sharing.More
Nice servers but took forever to get our food. Nan so dry and brittle. No flavor. Overpriced dinner. Wouldn’t return. Their lunch buffet is a good deal but never again will I do dinner there.
Food was outstanding liked that they taylor spices to your liking. Totally awesome👍🏾. A must try if you are passing by the area.
My fiancée and I were on vacation from Washington DC area and craving for the best Indian food, we found it online! We had been to many Indian/Pakistani restaurants! But your food is one the BEST we have!!! Mohammed is the great server with exceptional...skills. -AnwarMore
This was my first time at Saffron. I happened to be downtown and decided their lunch buffet might be a good idea for my first time. The restaurant is very nice and modern with an upbeat decor. A bit smaller than I had imagined, but...certainly very clean. After being seated, I toured the buffet. It was a fairly small buffet compared to others in the area (Rajput, Nawab & the now closed India Palace). Only a few 'main' dishes and sides. The food was delicious, everything I tried was cooked perfectly and very good. The only negative I felt was that the service was annoyingly slow & rather cold. Not really a smile or greeting, just 1 seemingly rushed waiter only handling two or three tables. We were well into the meal before the Naan was delivered at the table. Drink refills were slow. I plan on going again for dinner perhaps and seeing how the full menu is. The food was delicious, but my first impression was only average - mostly for the meager buffet and unfriendly service.More
We enjoyed the quiet ambience of this restaurant after leaving a noisy competitor nearby. They played Indian music softly and we were comfortable in a booth. We split an appetizer of Tandoori chicken wings, an order of nan, and a chicken kebab. The delicious sauce...and generous bowl of rice were served on the side. The chicken was moist and delectable! We were more than satisfied with our meal before a concert at nearby Chrysler Hall.More
Responsive, personable but never intrusive, the staff complemented the fantastic fare making a delightful experience that all too often frustrates anyone with dietary special needs. We’ll be back to sample their comprehensive and varied menu.
5 friends visited Saffron before a show at the Chrysler. Everything was great. Our waiter could not have been more helpful and made wonderful suggestions. His description of the heat level was right on. I'm unsure about the comments saying it is expensive. We shared...two bottles of wine, two appetizers and four entrees and our individual bill was $33.00. The service was fabulous, which is important when going to a show. I have been to Saffron on several occasions and this was the best. Thank you.More

The Somoza was not fresh however the wings were fantastic and kept us in anticipation of a great vindaloo lamb and goat curry. The curry was a “0” out of 10. Both dishes were a “vindaloo” curry but neither was “5” or “3” hot and...both certainly not the same vindaloo base having vastly different tastes. The lamb curry almost appeared (and tasted) like spaghetti sauce. We asked the waitress how the vindaloo was prepared and she (makes sense) stated it was a region in India where the sauce was more spaghetti sauce :-). So not to appear rude or openly disappointed we asked to have the curry placed in “plastic”’sealed take out containers so (not to have it spill and ruin car’s leather) and were told “they ran out”. We felt the awful tasting curry was not worth a spill risk and left it on the table. In fairness the naan and wings were delicious but not worth the $70.00 price tag for a meal for 2 with only had ice water as a drink.More
Found a lovely Indian restaurant in Norfolk. Had excellent tomato/ginger/garlic soup and our friends had the spinach garlic soup - both amazing! I had th.e Currie yellow lentils (terrific) and my wife split the vegetarian biryanis. Fabulous! The garlic naan was superb! The portions were...generous and the service was prompt and courteous. There is a full bar if you're so inclined.More
