The best sushi gourmet in the region, since many years. Incredible quality and freshness. Keep the good job

Don’t go if you really like traditional sushi. Went with high expectations around all the hype and was a complete disappointment. Every single piece has cream cheese and sauces in/on/all over it... even though we ordered the traditional menu and specifically asked not to include...cream cheese some pieces still had it in. The fish is tasteful and good but the mix of flavours is just basic. Honestly I would recommend if you just like fusion sushi but should definitely have a more traditional option. The sangria is really good though.More

We found it by accident and got a terrific experience with a great variety of very well prepared fish including some local delicacies one would hardly imagine eating raw. The only problem is this is such a good restaurant that is hard to get a...table. Best to book with a week in advance.More

Sushi is of great quality and friendly staff. We started with the amandel shrimps and ordered the large plate of 30 pieces. However we needed a plate with 10 pieces more. It’s a average price but worthwhile to eat there.

For someone that loves sushi this could mean a different experience. Once the diveristy of flavours, colours.. makes an improvement in each piece. And ny the way the personal is very nice.

This is a must. Best sushi we’ve had in Portugal and one of the best period. They manage to keep the tradition of good sushi and add a flare of Portugal. Service was excellent. Worth driving out of your way!

First of all, I went in with big expectations so take from this review what you will. And I mean big because a lot of people recommended me this place as the best sushi in Aveiro and even central Portugal. The meal was extremely good...and tasty, an absolute wonder which left me satisfied and not at all bloated as some of those pseudo-"sushi" restaurants do which are sprouting everywhere nowadays. The fish seemed fresh (not the extremely fresh stuff I was told about but standard level fresh) and had a very nice texture. The staff is in my opinion, the best part of the restaurant. From the moment we walked in they showed interest in making sure they knew exactly what we liked and did not, that we enjoyed our meal and that we were comfortable. A definitive plus there. The space is rather small, but it is extremely well decorated and cozy so no problems there. So all in all the experience was amazing and we definitely will go again. As for my critique, we asked for a menu with mainly nigiri and sashimi as we enjoy more traditional sushi than fusion. They delivered and it was quite good but for example the sashimi was nothing more nothing less than the regular sashimi you can get from most pseudo-"sushi" places. It was ok, somewhat bland but ok. Definitely not as mesmerizing and incredible as most reviews will make you believe it is. The nigiri was a surprise as it tasted better than any nigiri I have had before. And I would have believed this to be true had I not been sitting by the chef's counter, which allowed me to see him putting tiny salt pinches in every single nigiri piece in the platter, followed by scrapped lime all over. So here's my problem. Obviously this sushi is going to taste better and different than most nigiri people are used to since they are seasoning it with stuff. However it is not classical simple nigiri which is rice and fish, no seasoning. So I can't say it is the best nigiri ever since it is not actually nigiri. The fusion rolls and guncan definitely get major extra points as the restaurant's chefs clearly experiment and like to try new stuff which is absolutely delicious! Honestly these were great and I would recommend them to everyone. So all in all, go to "Barba Azul" if you're looking for absolutely wonderful fusion sushi and new alternatives you haven't tasted before. But if you're looking for classic sashimi and nigiri which is both original AND delicious then don't bother, you can find the same quality stuff for a cheaper price somewhere else. Take from this what you will.. I liked the restaurant and its food overall.More

Barba Azul is a sushi restaurant where you can leave the chefs to decide what you will eat. You just tell what type of sushi/Japanese food you like more and they will prepare something amazing for you! They are extremely creative and our dishes were...amazing. A lot of new tastes we have never tasted before. The staff is very very kind and make you feel at home from the moment you get into the restaurant. Price is fair, and for sure, worth the experience. Will come back. A must go for everyone that visit Aveiro.More
