Fabulous Al Fresco dining experience

We had a fabulous meal at this pretty restaurant in the main square. The restaurant is as most in the village mainly fish and seafood based but always with a broad range of other options including meat dishes. Frequented by the locals it’s a gem of a place. You can mix and match between the bistro set menu and the estran set menu to get dishes that appeal to those not wanting to eat fish (one of family is not a fish eater) so better than many restaurants. The menus offer amazing value for the excellent quality of the food. For mains had steak with a seaweed butter and beautifully cooked vegetables, ray with a raspberry and peppercorn sauce and sea bass with a sesame crust served on a stunning risotto with a langoustine sauce. Staff are super friendly and will speak French with you but if you need them to speak English I’m sure they would. The interior is air conditioned but we sat outside under the trees which was beautiful. Rose wine and cocktails were fab too! If you are in the area pop in and book and eat here you will not be disappointed.

The positive is the cuisine which is very correct with good value for money. A skate wing cooked very correctly, even if a little small, served with a well-made Pdt squeeze. Quite tender beef skewers The starters are also correct, hot goat cheese and Tahitian-style tuna. Nice welcome despite my negative point specified at the end On the other hand, the desserts could be improved. A pavlova with industrial ice cream and whipped cream too (I think for the latter. The negative, especially the reservation system is catastrophic……is when you arrive, the table is already taken.

A great discovery

On the terrace under the plane trees with the soft lighting of the city's street lamps we enjoyed excellent seafood and fish. To the point of coming back two days later to enjoy, among other things, Tahitian-marinated fish. The icing on the cake was that we were served by Lisa and Nassim, two young people who were always smiling and super friendly.

L’estrans, excellent restaurant

We have been to the L'Estrans restaurant at Le Chateau twice now and always have the same enthusiasm. Thanks to the boss, who recognized us and agreed to take second service. For the dishes, all very mastered, and worthy of this great chef. What great ingenuity in the presentation of the dishes, and what beautiful combinations of subtle sauces and vegetables cooked to perfection. The service is fast, without too much, and the staff is very smiling and attentive. We will return to this magnificent restaurant.

We had come 3 years ago and we had feasted. It was with great pleasure that we could see again the quality of the foreshore cuisine. If you are on the island, the detour is well worth it. We come back there regularly when we are on the island of Oléron because the foreshore is a very good restaurant that we love. The service is great, the food excellent and reservations are strongly recommended. Guarantee of quality of course. Reasonable price depending on the choice on the menu.

Congratulations for a perfect dinner! First of all, a medal for the always very warm welcome, we are not customers but hosts. The menu is inventive, both imbued with French tradition and a successful touch of exoticism. Excellent welcome with sunny smile. The content of the “gourmet” menu (l’Estran) is excellent. The dishes are very tasty: as a starter, the marriage of tuna with mustard ice cream is surprising but succulent and the pan-fried Foreshore has just the right amount of marble; the monkfish was perfectly cooked and each accompanying vegetable was delicious. The gratin for dessert topped it off. The recommended little local wine (and we let you taste it before making the decision) went perfectly with the dishes. Very large parking lot on the square in front of the restaurant. No reason not to rush there

Restaurant offering fine, varied, fresh and very good quality cuisine. The dishes are original (for example veal head and squid), hearty and tasty. The staff is friendly and professional. A good address for connoisseurs, remember to book because it is very often full. Very good value for money

Utterly charming restaurant. We sat out in the square in front of the restaurant which was buzzing. Friendly staff - clearly a family run restaurant. Delicious food. We all thought our meals were fabulous - the Tahitian influenced tuna and the razor clams a highlight. Very impressed Londoners.
