It is a reasonable restaurant with delicious food.. the food has a home made touch to the curries/gravies... It is near to parmarth niketan ashram (as in almost a km).. I now get why it is a must visit when in rishikesh.. If u r missing home cooked food.. this is the place :)

One of the most popular eating joints in Rishikesh. I have had lunch here every time I have visited Rishikesh since my childhood days. The place has evolved in keeping with the times. While earlier they only used to have simple North Indian food, now they have a wide range of Veg cuisine to appeal to the contemporary tourists. We were a group of seven persons and ordered items ranging from Tandoori Rotis , Plain Rice, Rajma Rice, Subzis to Veg / Hot & Sour SOUPS, Pastas and Dosas. Served promptly. Good quality. Reasonable prices.
Clean place with washrooms.
Interestingly, there is a fat man in traditional wear sitting at the entrance. We initially thought that it was a live size mascot of the restaurant’s brand name - Chotiwala. Once we realised that it was a live person, we got a few selfies with him.

We heard a lot about Chotiwala as very old name in Rishikesh but it is not as it was in the old days. Food was just routine nothing special as you expect from such an old name
I had special Thali food was good that means it is routine nothing extraordinary, you can get anywhere else as well.
There are two restaurants which is original not sure

We were four members who went to see what possibly we can have as a good meal but we were just left with hunger.
We ordered butter naans, laccha pratha(half cooked), pav bhaji (felt like the bhaji was made a month back), hut I'd like to commend the chef for the paneer he cooked was nice but again it flushed out in front on the dal makhni as it was just tasteless.
At last we just thought to order some sweets.
We ordered 2 rasgullas (ended up to be like stone) & some ice cream (the only thing which was good as it's not cooked by chotiwala!

When you face the restaurants, you see two of them as brothers fought and split into two. When you face them, we went to the one on the left. The food was below average. I requested glass bottle Thumbs Up soda bottle in the bottle and I requested it to be opened at the table to avoid any hygienic issues but server brought it in the glass. When I requested and reminded him of the bottle, after arguing he took the bottle back behind the counter. I followed him and caught the owner pouring the plastic cup into the bottle. When I requested the new bottle, owner completely refused and was very rude about it
The bread we got was not fresh
Do not go to this place. Lots of hype but very bad quality. Ownership is terrible

We were seated on the AC floor as it was peak time and the ground floor was completely filled. We ordered thalis. Due to us having the comfort of AC, the charges were hiked by a considerable percentage. There was comfortable distancing between the tables and overall, the service was very premium. Of course, they charged the money for it too! But it was peak afternoon in hot Rishikesh, so I'd say it was worth it. Coming to the food itself, the thali was pretty huge with a wide variety of sabzis. But some people might find the rice/rotis to be less than expected.

We went for family dinner, was quite excited, but thali was utter disappinted, dishes were cold, chapati was stinking, food was not fresh at all, he got everything in 2 mins.
Upon raising concern, management was quite rude, were not ready to accept mistake, claimed others are eating without complaints.
Highly overrated, please avoid. Much better option is Little Buddha Cafe in Rishikesh

Save your money and time and go literally anywhere else. They make you pay for every single addition you have to your order at the table while you are still eating. Prepare to yell your loudest to any waiter’s attention at all. Bad experience.

It's hyped. We have visited this restaurant today . There are 2 Chotiwala's located adjacent near to ram Jula. Very worst restaurant in terms of Quality of food and staff attitude . If there is an option to give minus star, i will opt for that. Most of the items found on the menu are not available and what ever we have ordered were tasteless or below par with any worst restaurant. Check the bill twice. They add price of bottled water even if you don't order it. Don't ever fall by any positive review. Most of them are fake . Don't ever even think of visiting here .

When in Rishikesh, a culinary journey is incomplete without savoring the flavors at Chotiwala restaurant, a must-visit eatery in the spiritual town. Notably, there are at least three Chotiwala restaurants in the area, each offering its own unique experience.
One of these establishments, named Chotiwala by Ganges, is situated near Ramjhulla parking. However, the original and more iconic Chotiwala restaurants, numbering two, are located on the opposite side of Ramjhulla near Swargashram. Each of these restaurants features a person adorned as Chotiwala, seated at the front to attract passersby.
The Chotiwala restaurant on the Ramjhulla side is less crowded, but some patrons find the food to be not as exceptional as the second one. The latter is known for its popularity, resulting in a bustling and sometimes overcrowded environment. Despite the crowds, the second Chotiwala restaurant offers a unique dining experience. There is a separate air-conditioned dining hall where patrons might need to wait for a table, as there's no dedicated staff for assistance. Finding a table becomes a self-guided endeavor. However, once seated, the service is prompt, ensuring that your ordered food arrives swiftly.
Both Chotiwala restaurants provide an authentic taste of local cuisine, with the second one standing out for its bustling atmosphere and efficient service. Whether you prefer the slightly quieter ambiance of the first or the lively hustle of the second, Chotiwala is a culinary destination that should not be missed during your visit to Rishikesh.

The restaurant is over hyped and just a shadow of what it used to be. There are better street vendors than this restaurant. Poor hygiene, tasteless food, over priced, limited options, no taste at all. The hype around it made us go but we came out highly disappointed with such pathetic food and service. Better have food from a street side cart than chhotiwala. They have failed to maintain the quality, taste and hype they carried in past years, and remain a poor shadow of what it used to be.

As suggested by my Father, the Chotiwala Restaurant in Rishikesh serving delicious food for more than 6 decades now.
Thinking to go for old places especially for food sometimes make you think twice because now newly opened restaurants and cafes due to their ambience and presentations are prefered by many but you don't have to think even once when you talk about this place.
They offer great food and taste with different cuisines.Had a lovely experience in Chotiwala.

This Chotiwala in Rishikesh is a popular restaurant with a variety of food available for your taste buds. The most funny part is the real Chotwala person sitting outside the restaurant, ringing a bell to welcome you. A huge Fat Man with a long Choti, in full make-up attracts one and all for a selfie. Children are very fond of him.
Food quality is Good. Prices are a little higher as per the quality.
