Great Tilapia tacos with a suggestion

I ordered the tilapia tacos which come with Spanish rice, black beans (or refried) and pico di gallo. I chose the flour tacos which arrived warm wrapped in foil and the other items on a separate plate. There was only tilapia inside the taco. A TIP FOR THE CHEF: Although the tilapia was cooked to perfection, it would be more palatable with sauteed red and green capsicums and onion. The pico di gallo was too spicy, cold and without any moisture to add to the flavor of the tilpia. We often go here because of its close proximity and great customer service. Also, their Mexican fare is not salty and greasy like so many other similar establishments.

Good Authentic Mexican food

I recently stopped in this restaurant to see what they had and how the food was since I am used to real Mexican food. I was so surprised! The nacho chips came out and were thin and crispy and homemade. The pico was fresh made not hot at all just a tad spicy but very good. I had the fajita Burrito. It was very good The dish came with refried beans and Spanish rice. The rice was incredible and delicious. Good seasonings to it. The Burritos had just the right amount of steak tender meat, with grilled onions and peppers. good seasoning there as well. I was pleasantly surprised. It also came with a side of lettuce tomato cheese and some sour cream. They did forget my guacamole though. Was not happy about that. That's why I gave it 4 stars, not 5. This was my first time there so I will return. Next time I am going to try the drinks to see how they are as well. But all in all its a good place for Mexican food. I am a prior Texan so it had to compare to what I am used to.

My favorite Mexican meal in Richmond!

Delicious as always. Fresh, generous portions and wonderful service. Picked up take-out vs dining in tonight. They are well prepared for Covid, and food is as delicious as usual. Chicken burrito with all the fixings and chips! Yum yum. Thank you, Julio L. (Roberto)

Outstanding meal as always!! Delicious large portions of chicken, rice and beans. Plus of course plenty of chips and salsa. Walter was our server: professional and efficient and nice young man. Great news! Nuevo Mexico is opening up their 2nd location in Museum District of Richmond in September. Mucho success, Julio 🎊🍾

Very cold inside

Went to dinner last night, the temperature in the building was very cold, most people had their jacket on. Didn't get everything with my order and had to ask for it. Will I be going back, probably not.

Enjoyable local restaurant.

We beat dinner rush & dined early. Manuel our server, was very nice, didn’t rush us & returned several times to check on us. Chicken enchiladas w/ rice & beans were delicious. Their Salsa & chips are addicting. Food came out hot and fast. WC was clean and our dining experience was very positive.

A friend and I have eaten at the Nuevo Mexico Restaurant on Staples Mill for several years. The food is always good, however the service has steadily gone down hill. The male waiters are rude and make you feel like they are doing you a favor when serving. The register area is not kept as clean as it was prior and the management has become non existent. Needless to say, we will not go back.

Won’t be back

We found same meals made differently on different trips, had to request it made to our liking. Last visit we were over charged for drinks, found chicken bones in our food and waiter was indifferent to complaints. Won’t be back

Great Mexican food.

We have been searching for good local Mexican restaurants. After many disappointments, we tried Nuevo Mexico. Everything was really good. We got burritos special and chicken fajitas, both excellent. Service was on the money and friendly. The restaurant was very clean. We will be returning.

Tuesday Taco Special

The five tacos for $6.00 on Tuesday is a great deal. They are large. The choices are chicken, beef and cheese. We had the chicken and beef. We prefer the chicken.. The complimentary chips and salsa are very good. During Happy Hour (weekdays till 7pm) the imported and domestic beers are specially priced. The domestic is $2.75. Sevice was very attentive.

Good Mexican food at reasonable prices!

My husband, 16 y/o son and I ate dinner here recently while in Richmond for a volleyball tournament and found the food and service to be very good at reasonable prices. My son's smothered burrito was quite large (and delicious according to him!) as was my husband's chicken and shrimp dish. The menu is huge and has every combination you can imagine! I was not very hungry and ordered an ala carte steak quesadilla for less than $5 and it was more than enough and yummy! Our bill was about $50 and included 2 Coronas. The chips are okay (doubt they are cooked fresh here) and the salsa is tasty. We asked for the "white" sauce based on other reviews and my guys liked it enough (cross between a sour cream dip and some other flavor). They serve liquor here and we were seated right away (located in a strip shopping center). We would return if in the Richmond area again. Try it, you'll like it!

Nice family Dinner

We had a party of 6. The server was attentive and efficient. Our food came out quickly and everyone enjoyed theirs. My man cleaned his plate and loved the chimichangas. I liked the nachos with pico and jalapeño added. The family plans on coming back.

3 senior couples opted for a change from our Tuesday night burgers for some Mexican cuisine. Service was prompt, food was good, prices were reasonable. Our selections ranged from quesadillas to tacos to enchiladas. The restaurant's Tuesday special is 5 tacos for $5. Visiting for the first time, my wife and I ordered the special. Neither of us could finish more than 3 of the tacos. The remainder became delicious lunches.

Very disappointing on every count

Our evening meal here was a big disappointment. The service, when there was any, was grudging and brusque - no hint of a smile. The food, chicken specials, was bland and stodgy. We could not wait to leave.
