My husband and I have passed El Maguey's at least a dozen times. It doesn't have much curb appeal. Thank goodness we decided to give it a try one weekend. Don't let the outside fool you cause they have yummy food there. Very friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Chips and salsa were good. I ordered the chimichangas which were delicious!!!... More
Our neighbors called: "lets do Mexican!"- so, within an hour we were seated in this busy, buzzing little oasis of warmth, enjoying delicious jumbo margaritas, warm chips and great salsa. The service was good, dishes were tasty and hot, the bill very reasonable. Everyone loves this place! Thank you.
Sometimes these little local Mexican joints have a wonderful cook in the kitchen. This was not one of those. Service was good, tables were clean, ambiance was basic tile and strings of plastic red pepper lights. The food was hot and came out quickly, but it was oddly institutional, as if we were having the school cafeteria version of a... More
Wait staff was friendly, the food was good, but when I saw a spider coming down on a web at the table in front of me, I started looking around and there was lots of dust. When you pay, just look at the plastic pin yada. Enough said. Dirty location indicates 30 people which turns to dirty food. Never again
My friend and I stumbled on El Maguey when traveling through Exmore. Goodness! We went back the next day. This really is authentic Mexican food. It is absolutely delicious! They have a full bar and an extensive, affordable menu with ample servings. They offer great homemade soups too! The wait staff was kind, helpful, efficient and the food arrived quite... More
The food is always good and service has always been fast and friendly. Staff is always willing to do their best to accommodate special requests. I have never had a meal that I would rate as anything less than good.
With about a dozen tables, getting a seat is definitely a hit or miss affair. On a recent Friday evening, arriving about 6 P.M., we got the last available table. But, as you know, Mexican food, generally comes out quickly after ordering, so there is a pretty quick turnover of people/tables in the restaurant. Of course, you get chips and... More
One of my favorite spots to take out of town visitors! Good food, pleasant service and friendly prices. All the dishes are cooked up fresh (or at least taste as if they are), and they arrive HOT and plentiful. A good menu selection with some American favorites (burgers and fries) along with the authentic Mexican dishes. Not fancy, but fun... More
Portion sizes were big & food was very fresh, albeit plain. Ordered tacos which came with no cheese, lettuce or tomatoes. However, tons of flavorful meat (carnitas and steak). Would go again; just be very specific when ordering. When picking up to-go order, saw some good looking margaritas - maybe we will dine in next time!
