Lousy $29 lobster roll. Bar closed. No service expensive lunch. Skip this place. Good view of lake but not worth a visit. Good French fries. Lobster had no flavor at all

Being locals we went to meet a friend for a drink and snacks. Took a table in a quiet corner after purchasing our drinks at the bar. We were having a wonderful conversation with this old friend. The place was empty and as it filled...the bar keep started to take away chairs and put others in a "reserved " appearance. After the bar keep approached us and questioned if we were going to order food a number of times. To order food you would have to leave the drinking location and walk back a several hundred feet towards the parking area, order food, the workers take a cell #, you return to your table and wait a while until notified. Then you must traverse the same way back to pick up your overpriced bar food and back to your table. What a system. They never heard of food runners I guess. All along while enjoying our drinks we were pestered to "order" food when all we wanted was drinks and snacks. Then the same bar keep approached us and announced "people are waiting". So us drinking was not good enough. While most restaurants are in the business to show people a good time these employees are in business to pester and turn over customers while emptying their wallets on overpriced food and drink. "Cheers" it is not. It seems to be run by the grouchy character on Sesame Street. As a customer you mast times at least want to be appreciated for your patronage but the flavor we were left with was spend your money and GET OUT. A very bad taste, so bad NEVER recommend nor visit again.More

We were visiting VT and came for fourth of July dinner after this place was recommended by two Airbnb hosts. At the side of the road you just see a food truck area — but once you walk closer there is a path to a...tucked away rooftop restaurant with splendid view of Lake Champlain. Excellent fries, good burgers, and relaxed vibe. They had a band playing that was great and got people dancing. Kind host who took our photo and told us a bit about the area. Highly recommend!More

People cooking and working there were VERY nice & accommodating! The food was decent although way too heavy with the cheese on the pizza. However they should state that this is NOT accessible for those with mobility issues!!!! You order your food at the truck...parked above in the parking lot then have to walk down a gravel path to the sitting area. They were very nice and gave my sister a ride down on a golf cart as she would have never made it otherwise. The other thing is the sign says Full Bar and it is not. It is limited beer & wine only. Maybe they plan on eventually having a full bar but they should fix that until then.More

We wanted night out and made a reservation. You need to order before getting seated and no one in the ordering line seemed to want to social distance. The chef even came out twice to shake hands with some friends in line, then went right...back and began tossing a pizza (no hand cleaning done). The menu is small and not much for a Gluten Free person to order. We walked down (warning, very steep hill) to find our table and there was a crowd at the entry of the tent. We tired to get out of the way, but could not. People going in and out, in our faces. Was told our table was almost ready. Was taken to be seated at a table only to find another group sitting down at that table. They got booted, but the table was not cleaned and we were seated. It was along the railing on the outside of the dining area, but people kept coming over to stand next to us to talk to people down below coming in off boats. Very annoying. Our meals came and I asked for ketchup for the fries (they do not come with it). Did not see the waitress again for 40 minutes. Asked again for ketchup, but by then the fried were cold. You had to go up to get your own drink and it was very crowded around the bar. The tables seemed very close together and it was hard to even walk through. No real wait staff. They just came and dropped off your food and you were on your own from there. Pizza was OK, but rather small, greasy and bare (asparagus). Burger was good. Place was so loud it was hard to enjoy the music.More

I use the reviews on TripAdvisor ALL the time, especially ones from most recently. The latest reviews did not fare well for this restaurant, but having dined at the Blue Paddle this summer, I wanted to give it a try. First, I looked at their...website and Facebook page. I didn't see any mention of reservations. I later discovered that within individual fb posts, it mentions reservations with a phone number. Not knowing this, we arrive and I stand in line to order the food and send my daughter down to look/wait for a table to become available. A few minutes later she comes back and says that seating on the deck is by reservation ONLY. First disappointment because nothing I read prior to arriving said that. She puts us down for a reservation for 40 minutes later, which I didn't think would be too terrible considering the line in front of me to order and the fact that I could see that people were being given a number to put on their table to have food delivered. I will note that other reviews say that you have to go back to pick up your food, maybe you do during the week, I'm not sure, but we went on a Friday night, and there were runners literally running the food from the food truck to the patio. We had given our phone number for them to call when our table was ready. About 10 minutes prior to our reservation, 2 two person tables were sitting empty, so I sent my daughter up just to check. They sat empty for 10 minutes, but at our reservation time, two other parties were seated instead of us. Puzzled, my daughter went back up and asked why we had not been seated, since our reservation was at 7:20. She was told she could be guaranteed a table at 7:30. By 7:35 we still hadn't been seated. Finally by 7:40 one of those 2 two person tables was empty again, and that's where we were sat. I am still puzzled as to why we were not seated there at 7:20 when it had been open. That was not the worst part, although I wish it had been. I had my food number sitting next to me on the bench where we were waiting and at 7:20 the runner stopped and handed us our food! We sat there holding the boxes of food for 20 minutes while it got cold, waiting for our table to be ready! We didn't couldn't eat the food cuz where you wait on the benches is the path to the deck where everyone is walking back and forth. We were wearing our masks, as it was not 6 feet from us and the people walking by (totally fine if we were just sitting there waiting, but not appropriate to take our masks off and eat with people walking so close to us). And that's not even the last of the disappointment. When we were given our food, there were only 2 boxes. We had ordered 2 lobster rolls and a caesar salad. I told the runner politely, letting him know I was missing the salad. He showed me the ticket, and there was no salad listed. Yet my bill was for $56 before tip (you pay for your food when you order) ... $22 each for the lobster rolls and $7 for the small ceasar salad. He was polite and said he would go check. Once we were seated at our table, he arrived with a box and told me that they had run out of ceasar salad and he brought me the other type of salad instead and a wooden coin worth $5 on a future visit. I have never had that happen before. Where I've ordered and paid for an item, only to be told an hour after ordering that what I've paid for is no longer available. As a side note, there's only a few different types of drinks where you order. If you want something from the bar, you must order and pay for it at the bar. And just to cap off an already disastrous experience, my daughter's lobster roll had a shell in it. Lastly, I believe that the State still has the restriction of parties being seated 6 feet start. The tables may have been 6 feet apart, but the chairs we actually were sitting in were define not 6 feet from the next party. I really wanted to be proven wrong be what I experienced versus the other reviews, but sadly I was even more disappointed then I expected I could be.More

When the 2020 pandemic started, all the restaurants in South Hero closed. The Blue Paddle is a landmark and tradition here, and all of their customers were quite distressed. I did not want to see them go out of business. But did they ever come...up with a great solution! They constructed an outdoor deck under a roof right by the lake, and set up a side location there. It's a really nice option and location. They serve mostly things like hamburgers, pizza, and sandwiches with drinks. I have been there several times and have tried the pizza and the veggie burger. Both very good. The waitstaff is cordial. They wear masks, and carry the food down the path to you on the deck. Please do eat here. It is a creative experience. They also have an outdoor tent set up on the side of their regular restaurant in town. I have eaten both there and here at the lake deck. Enjoyed them both very much.More

Went for the first time. Order a pizza and a burger. You have to either order and walk down or walk down and back up and order. Upon getting to the "Bay" part, you are actually seated upon shipping containers, and directly behind campers. Yes...you can see the bay, but your not really next to it. We weren't greeted and sat ourselves with no direction from anyone. We eventually walked up to the bar and asked if we had to order ourselves, which we did. The pizza was brought shortly after. It was by far the worst wood fired pizza I have ever had. It was soggy and not good. The hamburger was good, but both were overly expensive. And you have to order fries on the side for a extra expense. I've never had to pay extra for a side of fries with a burger at a restaurant. Not only this, you got no utensils or plates or napkins. Only after I started eating did I notice a cart next to the bar with all these items. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to get them or wait...eventualy after eating a bit I got up and got them myself. In conclusion the attempt is nice, but the execution is horrible, and the food way overpriced for what you get. It's unfortunate because this place has the potential, but at least act concerned for your patrons instead of a fast cash grab.More

I have been here twice in the past week, I wanted to give it a second chance. It's pricey for what you get (I expect more for a $15 dollar burger). There is a pretty view but you are looking over camping trailers. There is...zero service...they don't even tell you where to help yourself to the paper plates and napkins on the patio. The bar was closed for evening service this past Tuesday. They could have at least had by the glass wine or beer in a can, if the bar is closed it should be advertised as so. The experience was sub-par compared to the home restaurant. I advise go elsewhere.More

We had a fantastic lunch at this beautiful spot along the water. It looks like a food trailer along the road but after you order your food from the trailer which features an amazing wood fired pizza oven, you can eat at the shaded, waterfront...deck below. Incredible COVID creativity! Lobster was delicious!More
