We had a fantastic dinner outside as we celebrated our daughter's 21st birthday. I had searched for a stress-free, low-key and great food spot that could take a group of 8, plus our dog, and Blue Paddle Bistro did not disappoint. After a few initial...raindrops due to a fast-passing storm and a daughter who was running late due to traffic, the sun came out, all parties arrived, and we enjoyed wonderful food, service and overall ambiance. Our pup was even given her very own water bowl! We most appreciated your go-with-the-flow vibe and the ability to truly relax with our daughter and her friends. We never felt rushed. Everyone raved about their dinners, and our daughter said it was the best birthday ever. Thanks Mandy and staff for a great experience.More

If you don’t feel like reading a long explanation of our experience the short is: we had a bad experience with the chef coming to our table, and were rushed to eat just okay food for an expensive price. The entrees were small, but the...mussel appetizer was large. It didn’t knock my socks off like the mussels I got with coworkers at Burlington Beer Co. a couple months ago for the price. This is the first review I’ve ever left online for a restaurant. I have never in my life experienced something like this. The long: This was our first time here and the first date night my husband and I have had in over a year (I know, crazy). It started off well. We drove thirty minutes to South hero and enjoyed the drive. We were seated immediately. The mussels appetizer was ok, but then the cook came out and asked us if we were “done arguing” so she could bring out our entrees. We were in the midst of having a conversation about what we thought we would wear to my sister’s upcoming wedding. I can’t tell you the last time we had a kid free night to catch up with each other. Maybe we were too animated? I don’t think we were. My next thought was maybe she was trying to be funny. However, she then reiterated that we were holding up the entrees. I had no idea we were. I guess I’m not fancy enough - normally they are just brought out. We had a lot of mussels and were just picking at them because they were there, we weren’t trying to hold anything up. We also didn’t eat them all because we were trying to save room. I asked her if they would be ok boxed or if she thought we needed to finish them before the entrees. Her response was “well they’re good now aren’t they?” I was confused and said ok we will take a box so you can bring out entrees? We have never had a cook come out because we were too slow. My husband was jumbled in his words and she said to him “what, can you not speak English? Where are you from” I replied “he’s from Burlington” so she says “well he should be able to understand me then”. We were so taken aback and hate confrontation we boxed our entrees, and left. After a 20% tip for the waitress it was $140 (two beers for my husband, one glass of Prosecco and one glass of water for me, shrimp scampi, fillet mignon, mussels) for the worst restaurant experience we’ve had and just okay food. We got there at 5:40 and were in the car at 6:30. Not even a full hour. I realized on our drive home the waitress didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert or everything was okay - we felt so rushed and out of sorts for a splurge dinner out. We also just wanted to get out of there because We were upset. The more we thought about it on the way home the more upset we were. What a way to have a nice date night ruined. We will never go back.More

Nice cute place with recycled kitchen tables and chairs. Food is very overpriced for the value (5 ravioli) and not that great. A bit bland with odd combinations. Waitstaff is slow and a bit overwhelmed. Not the place to head if you or your family...has any type of food sensitivity or allergies as they are not overly interested in assisting!! Nice people just not my family’s type of restaurant. More for VT tourists who want to spend.More

This was our first time back since 2019 and we were looking forward to it. What a HUGE disappointment. We ordered 2 pasta dishes, one with shrimp and the other with chicken. We were served our order within 10 minutes of entering the restaurant. We...felt very rushed and as though our plates had come off an assembly line rather than by the Chef! The chicken was obviously pre-cooked, reheated and hence very dry. My husband had so little pasta it was almost funny, and his shrimps were bland and floating in pasta water water, not a white wine sauce. Did they run out of pasta? How did such a celebrated dining room become such a school cafeteria? No shortage of staff running around however, so that can’t be the reason. We were never approached by anyone to ask if we were satisfied with our dishes. $85.56USD for one beer, one glass of wine and two pasta dishes!?!? Seriously?? I am sorry, but we will never darken their doorstep again.More

My husband, two sons and I came here for Easter brunch after hearing for years how wonderful the place was. It did not disappoint. Amazing Bloody Mary and mimosa. We ordered beignets, Challah French toast, surf and turf., biscuits and gravy and the Irish Benedict....All were delicious. The staff and owner were super friendly and attentive. We will now be new regulars. Fantastic experience all around.More

This little gem in South Hero VT is the highlight of my trip to New England. While on vacation my 72nd birthday arrived. Blue Paddle Bistro was recommended by the staff at the campground where we w re staying. I am so glad we took...their advice. The owner met us on the front porch and warmly greeted us. After sharing dog photos, we were seated upstairs Our Server. Nate,, was very attentive and answered any questions we had. Our drinks arrived promptly We had the sugar and cinnamon glazed scallops with an apple chutney. Oh my they were to die for. Our friends had the spring rolls and they said they were also good. Our entrees were a perfectly cook Filet Mignon with caramelized onions and mashed potatoes and Soy Glazed Salmon with Asiago Risotto and Chicken Burritos We finished the evening with chocolate lava cake. This place was such a pleasant surprise. The quality of the food and the Flavor combinations made for a perfect dinner. If you are visiting the Champlain Islands a stop at the Blue Paddle Bistro us a mustMore

A delightful evening meal. We arrived just as the restaurant was opening and watched a steady stream of diners, all with reservations. The hostess was casually dressed and full of enthusiasm. We asked for outdoor seating and were at a picnic table near the road,...but it was easy to face the charming container garden and the beautiful strip canoe hanging from the porch. Warm and efficient server. Beautiful food, daily specials: duck risotto and shrimp scampi. Adequate amount but room for a shared slice of cheesecake, very good (a bit pricey for the size). The restaurant has a weekly menu, seems one could come often and have different options. Nothing pretentious about this place.More

The food at this restaurant is very good. Their problem is that people are so packed in, it is very loud and you cannot move around. This is not a new problem this is an ongoing one. We will not be going back again. We...left exhausted from trying to hear other members of the party talk. It is not a relaxing evening out at this restaurant.More
