A very well presented restaurant with an intimate atmosphere, perfect for couples dining out. The staff weer friendly and very helpful. The food was very good, we had fish and chips and steak; both very well cooked and they tasted great. Well worth a visit...More

The Chicken Tangine was very good, but lacked a few traditional spices; the 'Beet' burger was delightful; the Tapas was interesting and tasty too. Declining enrolment has hurt NECI but it's raison d'etre is still there.

Restaurant is staffed with students of the Institute (" La Brioche") but actually is quite diversified in its menu. Had dinner for one. Service was excellent (Paul), prompt, courteous. Enjoyed sitting sitting outside at a small terrace which is not as dark as inside. Lower...More

We had one hilariously wacky waitress, i.e., "Don't think about the beef cheeks while you're eating them" -- apparently she'd had a taste in the morning and thought it was a roast beef dish until she discovered it wasn't. And, oh, when I had just...More

With top notch prices, we were really looking forward to experiencing fine dining. Unfortunately, the food was pretty standard (my entree was a hunk of meat and seasonal vegetables cooked with some spices), the waitstaff got our order wrong, and then we were over-charged. We...More

The food was excellent and wait staff did a fine job. If you enjoy cooking shows, take a quick walk down the hall towards the bathroom so you can peak into the kitchen to see them making your food.

I was all set for a nice dinner at NECI, but was turned away at 5pm since the chef wasn't quite ready. So disappointing!

Imagine the entire state of Vermont as a food experiment or as its own laboratory where food products are grown and created for this particular climate; seasonally, organically, and sustainably. Now imagine restaurants as teaching laboratories this restaurant for instance. NECI on Main is a production lab for New England Culinary Institute. For over 30 years we have been teaching students to make connections with farmers, between the landscape and our food, and between seasons and culinary traditions. Sometimes we include food items that express a particular sense of place from outside of Vermont, or culinary traditions from other cultures, and use those items or experiences to enhance the foods grown here in Vermont. Our menu is no exception in this teaching philosophy, and reflects the best that Vermont’s farmers, and America’s next generation of young chefs offer.
