This was a nice little place. We showed up on a Thursday night around 6pm during spring break there was 5 of us. We had to wait about 30 mins. We grabbed a drink at the bar and sat and listened to some live music on the patio (how can you complain about waiting in this environment!!!). The weather was... More

If your looking for a very nice outdoor experience with live music the Gristmill is a great choice. They don't have the best food in the world but it's good. If you have kids they have a long piece of grass that they can run and play tag on. We have 3 little boys so that was nice. I got... More

Some colleagues and I stopped in for a business dinner. It was in the middle of spring break so we had about and hour wait to be seated. Service was fairly prompt. The main courses were good. I tried the trout dinner and was pleased with the flavor and cooking of the fish. Several of us ordered mashed potatoes and... More

You must go. I had the ribs and they were fantastic. The green beans were an excellent choice. Plan to eat outside. I love it out there. I'm so happy that we took the trip out. There is so much to enjoy at this place even after you finish eating you won't want to leave this beautiful restaurant. It's more... More

Four of us had lunch here today, and we loved it. It's a busy place, but even waiting for a table was enjoyable. The food was wonderful. (get the green beans) our server, Dalton, did a great job and made this a super experience. We'll be back.

Go for lunch. The place is so pretty, surrounded by the lake, beautiful trees and all the green area in the middle of the historic part of the city. Love the atmosphere and the view. Food is good but not marvelous. Steak could have more tasty. Fried potatoes should be more crispy and less dripping in oil.

A stop on our way to San Antonio. Fun town with great shopping and walking around. The Gristmill on a Beautiful day is perfect. There special was ribs which were delicious. The chicken Caesar salad was huge enough to share. The chips, salsa and queso were a great starter.

I have been to this restaurant many times and I am sad to see the food going a bit downhill. Every time we visit, we ask for a river view and always end up seated at a table on the top level. You can see the river somewhat, but the tables on the lower level clearly have a better view.... More

Description
Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular
restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years.

Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous
Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and
hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building.
Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the
restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried
steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish
and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge
pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack
Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine
list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.
