I love the location of this restaurant! You get good food portions for a good price! I like their wurst and spinach and artichoke dip!

We came for lunch and were seated right away on an outside patio - lots of trees, wooden benches for seats and the water just below. This place is huge - with seating on both sides of the main building - inside and out. We...More

Took a friend from the UK to lunch at the Gristmill. The service was excellent and the food was spot on. Highly recommend trying the deserts. They were a highlight.

The restaurant was unique, we sat outside under the trees after we notified the person at the front who wrote our name on a big chalk board. You could walk up to the bar and order drinks while you waited and huge misters were running...More

Had a bit of a wait - but worth it. Wide and interesting menu. Lots of attentive staff and really great food. Share the spin dip and HUGE onion rings! Will definitely return.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch last Friday, 11/2. Not our first visit, but it had been at least six months since our last. We started with the "small" order of their onion rings. It's six gigantic rings with excellent seasoning deep fried...More

Went with two girlfriends on a Thursday night. We had lemon drop martinis and then shared a full rack of ribs and a couple of desserts. The ribs were so tender they just fell off the bone. Delicious! The lemon drops were freshly squeezed and...More

Gristmill is our favorite place for date nights. The Guadalupe River is within view from many seats. The old Gristmill makes a beautiful rustic setting, and the fireplaces are lovely during the winter months. Be sure to try their ribs and burgers!! They can't be...More

I haven’t seen dogs there; there is an out door waiting area which seems as though it’s pet friendly however food is not served there.

There is a lot of shade trees, tables with umbrellas, and if you want to sit inside, there are ceiling fans. To cool off enjoy a margarita, beer, or tall glass of iced tea.

I saw grilled food items and veggies as well, I'm sure if you let the server know they can try to accommodate.

Description
Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years. Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building. Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.
