Made a quick day trip to Gruene to have lunch and what a great idea that was!! We sat outside on the upper deck and the view was amazing! The food was delicious and when there was a slight issue with my food, the manager went above and beyond to resolve the issue!! The Bloody Mary's were yummo as well!!... More

We went for to celebrate a birthday. We got a table outside, but could not see the river. The food was okay, but there is a lot of it. Our server didn't seem to have much personality.

They have a great setting and the food is fine. Not sure there is an exceptional dish but I did like the tortilla soup. Friendly staff that is accommodating. I would suggest have a cocktail here as the sun sets. My father really enjoyed his cheeseburger.

The food is tasty and relatively affordable. Not a fast food restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Outside dinning over the Guadeloupe River under large shade trees or inside renovated barn like structure. Try it you'll like it.

I have a friend who lives in San Antonio and she took me to the Gristmill when I visited from PA. This restaurant has the most AMAZING atmosphere and the food is equally good. Now every time I visit, I hope we'll eat there at some point. I've had the ribs which were just awesome and the last visit, I... More

The atmosphere was nice but I wasn't very impressed with the food. It was just average. I have eaten there 3 or 4 times and I probably will again.

My wife and I asked a store clerk to recommend a nice restaurant with character, charm and good food. They recommended the Gristmill and they were not wrong. This is a historic experience with staff that is super engaged and helpful, the food was absolutely fantastic and a great value. We liked it so much that we returned with our... More

This old gristmill is open air, over the Guadalupe River. Here we had lunch with great fries and beef sandwich. Very large portions. It was part of a whole day at old town Gruene.

Excellent food (at reasonable prices), superb location, and friendly staff make this the place to go in Gruene. Being right next the the Dance hall is a bonus.

We went with guests visiting in the area and ordered a bit of everything. It was all delicious but the favorites of the group seemed to be the full rack of ribs and the hamburgers. The servers were friendly and efficient

Description
Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular
restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years.

Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous
Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and
hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building.
Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the
restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried
steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish
and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge
pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack
Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine
list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.
