Busy restaurant but was seated right away. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We only went in for a drink but ordered some fried pickles. Despite the rogue fried jalapeño, the pickles were delicious. The only downside to Clear Springs was that it was very humid inside.

Dance hall / gin mill - what a history now a great place to git me some great fried catfish and a heaping plate of the best onion rings - Been here a couple times and am going to visit again when I visit my son's family nearby in New Braunfels. The place is part barn part museum and just... More

So different, when you first enter. The outside gives you no idea what experiences lie within. The service is quick and friendly. Food is in the mid range, nothing extravagant, just a simple affair. Something different.

My family (large group of 16) went for a birthday dinner. The service was very good for such a large group. My husband, son and I started with a small order of onion rings - and they were more than enough in size. I had the skinny salmon salad for main course and it was good. My husband had the... More

We stopped in at the urging of a friend, and so glad we did! Every wall space filled w/antiques, interesting found items or taxidermy, fish, deer etc! I recommend Chicken Ella! Very tasty. Appetizers were excellent and margaritas were stout. A great end to a hot day of antiquing and sightseeing. Waitress was outstanding and manager did check on us.... More

Clear Springs Café specializes in fried food. The restaurant is actually a converted dance hall (Historic Marker No. 1) built by the early settlers of New Braunfels. They're known for their catfish and onion rings and both were outstanding. The onion rings had a light batter coating and were so sweet. Our children (who aren't that keen on onion rings... More

Hadn't been here in awhile. Hankering for Chicken Fried Steak. Where else to go but Clear Springs! Started with small Onion Rings. Nothing small about them! Excellent as usual. Save room for the Buttermilk pie.

Wow what an awesome restaurant. We went out from Georgia to San Antonio to visit my son and his wife and wanted to experience some real Texas food. I was not disappointed in the least. At first I had my doubts. The building was old and rustic appearing but when I found out it had been an old dance hall... More

I have been here a few times and I'll go back again. The catfish is good and this time, I added coconut shrimp to my lunch, it was amazing.

Description
This was the very first Clear Springs location. It's actually located in Clear Springs, Texas between Seguin and New Braunfels. The building dates back to 1869 when it was mainly used as a grocery store for the locals. If you are ever in the area, it's worth the trip to check out the history that's behind this popular location. You better come early, standing room only is a common sight here.
