Good tuna steak special. Good chicken-fried pork chops. Three types of gravy to choose from. Good green beans. Our waitress was so sweet and thoughtful, more like a favorite aunt than a waitress. Great place for families or to bring a date.

To the owner, and patrons: Blake's is fair to good, but could be great. The fried pickles could have been fantastic, but they were fried in oil that something else was fried in. With a dedicated frier, or a really good filter system they would be amazing. Green beans... perfect. Burger had fresh vegetables, meat was properly cooked, but bland, bun was toasted in bad flavored whatever. I recommend toasting the bun on a very clean grill using a Danish butter, like Chall___ge. Atmosphere is great. Just a few tweaks and your already faithful crowd will grow.

After making it through COVID we decided to return to one of our favorite restaurants. What a mistake. First of all they now only have Prime Rib on Fridays. We came down from San Marcos specifically on Saturday night for Prime Rib, they no longer have it on Saturdays. Sad,,
Ordered the grilled Pork Chops with mash potatoes and a salad with thousand island dressing. The dressing had way too much pickle in it and that is all I could taste, The Pork Chops had no flavor except for the char of the grill. I believed, like at most restaurants, they would be have bone in, but they were 2 little pork loin size, The mash potatoes were a little dollop size and unimpressive taste wise,
My spouse had grilled chicken, green beans and rice pilaf. The Chicken had no flavor and was over-cooked and dry. The green beans were bland and mushy, the rice pilaf was just rice.
I know times are hard for getting help at restaurants, but the servers looked like high schoolers with no clue how to wait on tables. Our server took our drink order, a tea and a diet coke, and returned a minute later asking who gets what? Once our dinners were served, the server didn't return to check on us and we had to ask others for refills.
The restaurant closes at 8pm (on a Saturday?) and a large family (8) arrived and was seated about 7:45. At 8pm the servers began to pick-up the dining room chairs and place them upside down on the vacant tables, even right next to us. This is a practice usually completed at most restaurants when the customers are gone. To customers still seated and eating this is extremely rude and appears as if they are trying to rush folks out. They even stacked the chairs next to the table they had just sat and who hadn't even ordered yet.
All in all it was a disappointing evening and so sad that a once vibrant restaurant has declined.

We ate at Blake's Cafe tonight for the first and only time. I ordered a steak cooked medium. I got a steak that was past well done and bone dry eventhough the steak flag said medium. It was inedible. The potatoes were COLD. The fried okra was edible but nothing to write home about. I did not eat the meal and I learned a long time ago not to sent food back or ask for a substitute. This was the worst food I have experienced in a long time. I give it a one star rating because that is the minimum allowed. I wish I had taken a picture to show everyone.

I had the best chicken fried steak I’ve had in a very long time my husband had the catfish and he said it was delicious. It’s a cute little place nothing fancy, but delicious food.

Food and service were good as always. I was disappointed to have to pay a fee for using my debit card. Those fees are part of running a business that the restaurant should pay. Now they pass it on to customers. Not good!

The Cafe is very good and with very reasonable prices and great food. The chicken tenders were the best I've ever had and the hamburgers and chicken fried steak very good. I loved the decor and the staff was friendly with good service. I highly recommend this cafe.

Stopped in to grab a bite and a beer. Texas is super hot in July....you burn some serious calories. I got a lunch special to go for the hubs - chicken fried steak - and a grilled lemon pepper chicken for me. (It was my have-to meat day) I was served fresh bread and butter while I waited in a cool and kitschy dining space. The deer head on the wall behind me was even festively decorated with red, white, and blue tinsel and sunglasses for the 4th. Another wall had a great mural of Lake McQueeney and dollar bills. Chill vibe. The Texas beer selection was great, and I got. Farm Road Texas Beer Co Pecos Amber Lager. Delish. I sampled my husband's fried okra and green beans - he didn't want the veggies anyway - and they were amazing. The to-go container looked like diner food - large steak, full sides. Here's where Blake's is very good and not excellent....my food came on a plate....with these tiny portions...and my sides weren't as good as his! Diner food should be SLUNG onto the plate, all mixed because of the huge portions. Everything on the menu is usually amazing. My breast was small and dry....the mac and cheese tasted like it came out of a box, and I got these tiny, baby scoops. The potatoes were ok, but not as good as the green veggies. Also, like....where's my food? I never finish food when I'm sitting down....just don't have the stomach space. But I ate both my sides even after sampling my husband's food and eating bread. Now this may have been a fluke, since it's lake season and they get busy. Maybe I got the last scrapes of the mac and cheese so it wasn't the freshest. Maybe my husband's sides were better since the greens are in season. I will go back before saying Blake's is average, but I was shocked to find a small town Texas diner that didn't blow me away right off. Like I said, my husbands order was badass. Mine was not. However, the inside was clean, bathrooms were immaculate, and the staff could not have been friendlier. The waitress I had double check on the local offerings twice to make sure I chose the right beer. So I'll go back, but it wasn't excellent this time around.

Blake’s was one of our favorite places to eat when we stayed at Bikinisland in McQueeney. They have a side room that accommodated the whole family and we still are talking about their chicken fried steak. The deserts were pretty tasty too.

We stopped by here on our way home from a fun day over spring break. We were pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is fun! They offer craft beer and good variety of options on the menu. Prices are reasonable.
We will definitely be making a trip back there soon!

We went as a group of 6 and had a great supper. The Gouda Mac and Cheese balls were a great appetizer. The Chicken Fried Steaks were awesome and the Prime Rib was melt in your mouth amazing! Zucchini chips and Mac and cheese side were great too! My second time at Blake’s and both time were unreal!

We have been going to this place for years. The chicken fried steak is one of the best in the state. Very little breading, but a good crispy crust on a plate sized piece of steak. good gravy. I asked the waitress to make sure my loaded baked potato was hot because I am a baked potato snob, most places serve a barely warm potato. Blake's serves a HOT potato and I mean HOT. House wine is $4.50 per glass. Lots of sides offered and all are good. We live 30 miles away from Blake's and it is worth the trip. Overall a great deal and great food.

I had a family dinner at Blake’s for my son-in-laws birthday... he picked the place... and it was Blake’s. I had never been there... so I was looking forward to trying it! It was very good, in that “good old country eating” kind of way. Lots of fried food... I shared a chicken fried steak with my daughter... and fried okra, it was great!!! (My arteries hate me!). Lol! I will go back... I really liked it! (I also had dessert... since we shared... coconut cake... can’t recommend it... very dry... kind of tasteless.). But hey who needs desert with a great chicken fried steak and cream gravy!!!
