On a recent business trip to San Angelo, Texas, one of the people in my party who knew about the Lowake Steak House mentioned that it was "within driving distance" of our destination that day. When we finished our business meeting, we ventured out into the farmland and eventually found this hidden gem practically in the middle of nowhere. Luckily,... More

Everyone knows Lowake's legendary history: oilmen flying in from Houston just to eat a steak...steaks larger than the plate...etc. After several ownership changes, the quality and taste is back. Seven of us who grew up in West Texas made the trip and were not disappointed. Ordered KC for 4 with three extra setups and had enough sirloin for everyone plus... More

My family would come to Lowake just to eat a meal. My father and Phil were friends and anytime we were headed down south this is were we stopped for a meal both on the way and from our destination. The old days when people would fly in just to have one of Phil's steaks or hamburgers are long gone.... More

This place bills itself as the “famous” Lowake Steak house. I’d testify that it once was famous, but by today there’s no fame about it. It’s filthy and a shadow of the former steak house the brand built it’s reputation upon. It’s rated #1 in Lowake because it’s the only operating business in this ghost town short of the Post... We have been going to Lowake Steak House for several years. We have even planned trips around getting to Lowake first. The building is a little vintage and could use updates, but the food was still good.

Travelling to football games this past fall, my family and I had the opportunity to eat at this restaurant three times. My parents and I used to eat at this restaurant in the 70s at the height of Lowake's popularity so it has a special place in my heart (and stomach). The steaks are tender, juicy and plentiful. The KC... More

We try to take a 1 1/2 drive to Lowake's Steakhouse whenever we can (not often enough!). The strip for 2 is amazing. The seasoned rub makes the meat moist and flavorful and there is plenty to box up and take home for another meal! The salad bar is average. Service is good. I hesitated reviewing Lowake's because it is such... More

Years ago my uncle recommended this place, as he used to be in the oilfield equipment industry and travelled often in West Texas. He's been gone for many years, but I wish I could tell him I finally got out there! Lowake is in the middle of nowhere, but the steak house is worth the drive. Salad bar is average,... More

Service was good and quantity of portions was outstanding. Shared the "KC for two" with my buddy who was treating the wife and I to lunch. Platter was piled high with enough steak to feed four people. Not being a fan of garlic, I couldn't appreciate the seasoning (heavy on the garlic) on the meat, yet managed to eat two... More

Step back into Texas, circa 1965-77 or so. In a "vinyl chair, Formica tabletop, neon signs on the wall" very good kind of way. The steaks are choice or prime, cooked exactly right, and though the onion rings were a little too bready on a recent visit, the great service and seriously (ridiculously sized) amazing steaks keep us coming to...
