my husband and I are vegetarian, we wanted to find a pub which served more than the standard veggie burger or lasagne at reasonable prices. Read the menu online and it looked amazing. We were not disappointed. Largest choice of vegetarian food I have seen in a long time. We had starters of garlic mushrooms and griddle courgette. For main , He chose a homemade curried vegetable pie and I had aubergine bake. Both were divine. I noticed another guest was served the sea bass, and although I don't eat fish, it was beautifully presented. All excellent value. Will definitely visit again.

Fantastic attentive service that provides an inclusive menu , catering exceptionally well for vegetarians, vegans, dairy free etc along with the general menu.
I’m used to having just a couple of options to choose from but here the options are several in each menu section.
They are managing Covid restrictions well and clearly provide a good safe service at good value

Popped in the Stags Head Friday night for a drink with a friend and on smelling the delicious food coming from their kitchen we had to eat! I had recently been to Berlin and being a massive German food lover I was delighted to see some German favourites on the menu. I had the Pork Schnitzel with rustic fries, peas and a creamy mushroom sauce. It was amazing, I felt I was back in the wonderful city of Berlin. To top it off, when I asked for some mayonnaise I was given some authentic German mayonnaise which was a game changer 🤤.
I would definitely recommend this place, lots of choice with food and drink and great friendly staff.

Visited here on Mothers day for a carvery lunch. We enjoyed it so much we returned today for another carvery lunch. When we got there there was no carvery servery, the landlady said as there were fewer customers we would have the same meal but plated up in the kitchen.Meal arrived and the veg did not look that appetising, Cabbage undercooked, leeks a bit dry, carrots looked dry .overall very disappointing. On paying the bill I told the landlady we were very disappointed that the veg was unappetising. She asked what in particular, and said it was exactly the same as always,no one else had complained. She then said Don't come back.you will not be missed. Not the right attitude if you want custom. Personally even without the comments I would not go back if the food was free. Avoid

Such ashame you chose this way to try and slate the business. No one else had complained and you can also see by our reviews how hard we work. You were just upset as the Carvery wasn’t available but the food is exactly the same just plated up from the kitchen. So whilst you decided to try and spread your bad words to two other tables all they did was laugh at your behaviour as you were so pathetic. May I also remind that you both managed to clear your plates and were asked by my members of staff if all was okay with your food to which you answered “yes” . Out for a free lunch doesn’t bode well and I question how many other pubs/ restaurants you have done this too. Piece of advice , stay at home and cook your own roast dinner !

We went to The Stags Head on Saturday. There was a really lovely atmosphere there and the Owner came to talk to us about the menu before we decided what to eat. The good was piping and really good. It was so good being in such a traditional pub with a brilliant atmosphere.

Lovely family meal. Took the wife and the kids for a lunch on Saturday afternoon. Great service. I had amazing fish and chips which was as good as any I’ve had in a restaurant and my wife had the homemade burger with blue cheese which was amazing. Stu and Anita were hospitable as ever and made us all feel welcome and importantly Covid safe. Kids meals were just what they wanted - Sausage and mash and chicken nuggets. Highly recommend.

I promised my family visiting from Essex, a proper Sunday lunch from my new local. So, after roast beef, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, swede, braised leeks, cauliflower cheese, carrots & peas - they have voted this the best Sunday Lunch! The homemade bread & butter pudding was out of this world.
The service (Izzy?) is friendly and helpful, the lady chef is great. Dogs are welcome out on the patio and there is a table at the front of the dining area that dogs are allowed too. I can’t eat here every week, I would put on too much weight. But I’d love to!

We are locals so visit this great pub a lot. We took some friends last night for the Burns night. It was fabulous. We listened to a piper who played while the haggis was piped in. Then the Haggis was blessed with a Robert Burns poem. The food was excellent. We had a three course meal which was absolutely delicious and a complimentary whiskey. Afterwards we sat in the friendly bar and enjoy the atmosphere. Our friends remarked how relaxing and friendly the pub was. We would recommend to anyone.

Absolutely amazing carvery! Couldn't fault it. Had all three meats and each one was succulent. There was a great choice of veggies & delicious gravy. One of the party had a vegan bake which I did try and it had delicious flavours. Good selection of beers and gin. All the staff are attentive and friendly giving the place a banging atmosphere. 10/10 will be back.

Whilst staying at the camping and caravanning site at Southbourne Chichester today, we decided based on previous reviews to eat at the Staggs Head at Westbourne. We could not have made a better choice, Anita and Stuart could not have been more welcoming and the food was superb. The choice of meals is varied and would suit all tastes. Would recommend to all. Thank you Anita and Stuart for giving giving us a lovely lunch, we will be back.

We visited The Stags Head in Westbourne as we are new to the area and wanted to try out the ‘Local’. The pub seemed busy enough with locals drinking and a singer was on later in the evening. From a very limited menu, we chose burgers, one veggie with side salad and one chicken. That was a big mistake as the veggie burger arrived over-cooked and dried out with oven chips and no salad. The chicken burger had fared slightly better but not exactly exciting. It wasn’t exactly cheap either and was a real disappointment.

Thankyou for your feedback I feel I need to respond.
1, why has it taken you a month to decide you want to write a damning review on trip advisor ?
2, why at the time of your visit did you not mention that you didn’t enjoy your meal ? The staff will always ask if everything is okay with your food and the fact you managed to clear your plates puts a totally different perspective on what you have just written ?
3, why did you not ask to speak to someone instead of slating on trip advisor ?
4, we DONOT AND NEVER HAVE USED OVEN CHIPS!
How dare you slate what ingredients we use when you don’t even know yourself.
5, Are you actually sure you visited The Stags Head in Westbourne? Feel free to come back in and speak to us about your issue that you clearly couldn’t at the time.
6, Not sure if you had noticed but yes prices have gone up due to the costs of food going up, oil, electric, gas, rates, council tax, staffing costs maybe you don’t live in the real world ?!
Before slatting businesses that are trying so hard to make a living and keep the local pubs alive make sure you have a real reason to be so damn negative, as they clearly don’t need customers like you too gutless to speak to the management but are quick enough to try and destroy a business on social media even though it taken you a month. You are absolutely disgraceful.

Been waiting a while to try this pub due to lockdown restrictions and only having moved to the area recently. It was worth the wait for sure. The food was really tasty, we had a very well cooked Sunday roast and all the trimmings, great portions, enough for even the biggest appetite. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and all the social distancing rules were being observed, everywhere was lovely and clean. We will be back to try their everyday menu soon.

We enjoyed a super Sunday lunch at the carvery. Vegetables were really plentiful, Yorkshire pudding crispy and 4 different roasts to choose from. The desserts were delicious...
All was going well until a dog belonging to the pub (we assume) was running loose in the bar. It was sniffing very close to where food was being served. Then our waitress (who had started her job only that day) bent down to pet the dog on her way to the kitchen. She then emerged from the kitchen with our desserts, not having had time to wash her hands.
I mentioned this to her, and she apologised, but this really isn't good enough on the part of the management.
Waiting staff must be told NOT to touch animals if they are serving food.
It spoiled my enjoyment of the day and I do hope that in future hygiene standards will be improved.

The closest you will probably get to home cooked food, in what is a very atmospheric village pub. Plentiful food choices and for us, the right portion sizes. The village itself is well worth visiting. Shame we live out of the county but a priority for a visit upon our return. They also comply with our new social distancing rules.

We had a wonderful experience when we booked a table in the beer garden for our family and friends on the bank holiday weekend. Stuart and Anita could not have made made us more welcome. We were a party of 9 with 3 generations and all really enjoyed the marvellous Sunday carvery which was hot, delicious and really high quality. They offered generous portions of Beef (my favourite), lamb and turkey with plenty of sides and gravy. Stuart was kind enough to make my eldest son a cheeseburger and chips as he’s not a fan of Roasts which was not on the menu as it was a Sunday. We spent many hours enjoying the sunshine and lovely drinks.
