A hidden gem, tucked away in a tiny strip center, worth the hunt. Mr. Max is authentic, fresh, delicious and skillfully composed. It's cozy, so call for a reservation or expect to wait a bit.

This is a true Japanese Izakaya restaurant in Dallas TX. Price is right, atmosphere is right, food is right, and drink is right! It's the true Izakaya! We visit Mr. Max whenever we come to Dallas and enjoy a little bit of Japan there. You will not regret ordering anything from the menu. Make sure you get Calpico Chuhai drink.... More

Well worn in the Texas sun, the store frontage looks appropriate in the shabby little strip mall that it calls home. You approach a dusty wooden door with a faded hand written sign declaring that it is closed on Sunday. With expectations firmly set at a minimum, and hopes of a lunch buffet, you turn the handle and enter the... More

We were so excited to find this hidden gem in Dallas! We were craving for Japanese Izakaya style restaurant and here they were! We got there around 8:30pm and had to wait for 15min. Staff were very nice! We started with Chu-hi! Grapefruits chu-hi was fresh and tasty! All the food we ordered were as authentic as they could be!... More

It's located in a nondescript shopping strip. Step inside and you forget you're in Irving! It's a small restaurant but they take reservations. Walls are lined with all the menu items in Japanese and English. All the people eating around us were Japanese. We ate the sample appetizer, tempura sampler, grilled beef tongue, hot udon, shoyu ramen, tonkatsu shoyu ramen... More

I really didn't know what to expect when I pulled up. It was nestled away in a strip mall and seemed kind of circumspect. But when I opened the door I was instantly transported back to Japan. This is a great izakaya with all sorts of Japanese pub options. The takoyaki are great and served in the pan they are... More

Food was awesome. I liked the decor and style of this restaurant. Sushi was fresh and reasonably priced. Most of the people who were visiting this restaurant were Asian, which is rare. The food is authentic.

Mr. Max is only open for dinner. Don't let its seedy looking strip mall location put you off. Inside the doorway you are transported to Tokyo and the atmosphere of an izakaya (Japanese pub). Eat at the counter or the low Japanese style tables. There's usually a line for dinner. The evening I went to Mr. Max the crowd was... More

Agree with all those that say it's the closest thing to being in Japan in the DFW area. Go with an open mind and try some of the plates you normally wouldn't because Mr Max does all of the well. Service was excellent. If you are looking for quite and intimate, probably not what you are looking for. Busy and... More

It's in a rather unattractive strip mall. Nicer inside. Service is attentive. Not a lot of seating. They service sashimi of good quality. No sushi or rolls. The raw wasabi octopus was quite tough and slimy. Bluefin tuna was excellent. They have specials like 3 small apps for $6.50, which came on a small plate. Burdock root salad was interesting... More
